We enjoyed playing the game but it was quite fiddly and whilst I can see why the magnetic words were so small bigger would have been better for my clumsy fingers. If you use the other side your magnetic words are much easier to slide off but then you have the game title, Ransom Notes, as a background rather than a plain black, making it harder to read your response. We're not some big corporation — we started making games for fun one day, and now we're lucky enough to do it full time.

Grab a handful aiming for around 75 but you don’t have to count, unless you know, you have to, in which case this is going to be a looooong game!I was so hoping when I saw the picture that this was a re-release of “Word Blur” which is also played with word magnets and is incredibly fun. Ransom Notes the ridiculous word magnet party game that sees players using word magnets to respond to outlandish prompts with their limited pool of words.

Overall, a clever, funny, successfully-conceived game, and we laughed a lot, and we played a full game in under an hour. I mean it just doesn’t have the same “gosh that’s rude” feeling you get when playing Cards Against Humanity. Add in our brand new Expansion Pack for nearly 200 more prompts, 120+ wild word magnet additions, and 4 extra trays to expand the game to 10 players!

Someone reads a prompt from a card, and everyone (including the reader) has to pick words from their collection of word magnets to express what is on the card. Simultaneously, they all dig through the collective mound of words in the center to try to get their team to say the word. There are a few suggested ways to judge who wins the round but mostly I play with a friendly bunch so we take an honest vote accepting if someone else’s response is genuinely better than our own we vote for it.

So aside from potentially running out of word magnets and not having more displays to show your sentences on I’m sure you could play with a bigger player count than 6.It has lots and lots of cards, so you won’t be repeating phrases anytime soon; and there are enough magnets that you should keep coming up with fresh combinations. Ransom notes are perfect for adult game nights, quirky holiday gifts, and hilarious birthday gifts for smart people. BUT, if you do want to make it entirely family friendly, pulling about 20% of the Prompt Cards should make the game totally PG and playable for all!
