About this deal

Lamb – I do feel I have to include him – there is much I dislike about him but he is also engaging and loyal when his team are threatened (by anyone other than himself) and yes he does, as The Guardian interview with Herron suggests, bear echoes of Falstaff, unlikeable but compelling in a horrible way. Spook Street is one of the darker novels and what little comic relief there is, is provided by Roddy Ho getting a girlfriend, a plot thread which is pulled in the follow up novel, London Rules. It also lays the ground for the events of Joe Country, and at the same time introduces a series villain, ex-CIA operative Frank Harkness. This novel is a series highlight for me, and went on to win the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award as well as being shortlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger Award, The British Book Awards and The Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award. Robotham shortlisted for CWA Gold Dagger". Books+Publishing. 14 August 2020 . Retrieved 16 August 2020. If you like your suspense novels told with a smart dash of wit and sarcasm, filled with lots of twists and turns, Herron’s your man.”

Alongside this, Arkady Pashkin, a Russian oligarch, has been invited to talks by the slimy James “Spider” Webb in the Needle and he has seconded Harper and Guy to babysit him – a term that seems to mean both protect him and keep tabs on him – for those talks. It did not come as a huge surprise that these two plots were connected by the end of the novel, even if it felt just a little forced. River has to steal something out of the Park to save a life. Lamb realizes a stranger game is afoot. Slough House, Book 5.5 | The (Marylebone) Drop (Novella) The Drop, aka The Marylebone Drop in the US (2018)Chernitsky ambushes Ho on the train but, after Dander boards the train and helps fighting him, escapes. Lamb calls Katinsky, deducing that he is the supposedly fictional Russian spymaster "Alexander Popov". Katinsky reveals that outside of his part in the Glasshouse plot, he also intended to kill Lamb in retribution for Charles Partner, his mole at MI5. Lamb, already aware of this, had notified David that he was another potential target due to his complicity in Partner's death. By the time River arrives at Tunbridge Wells by plane with Kelly, David has already ambushed and killed Chernitsky with a shotgun. Louisa and Longridge kill Pashkin when he attempts to escape the Glasshouse, having betrayed and killed Piotr along the way. Realizing he has been outmaneuvered, Katinsky goads Lamb to kill him. Lamb instead leaves Katinsky with one bullet left in his revolver, and Katinsky kills himself. This is a book that can be enjoyed by anyone – whether you are a fan of spy thrillers of not. The story line is good (though the revenge motivation given near the end maybe a tiny bit implausible) – but the convoluted and exciting plot is just the medium for some scintillating prose and a panoply of beautifully crafted characters. In 2003, Heron published his first novel, Down Cemetery Road. It was the first volume in a four-book series about Zoë Boehm, an Oxford private detective. [4] Dead Lions] features some of the twistiest plotlines in crime fiction…[and] is beautifully written but also elegantly structured . . . Ever since finishing Slow Horses, I’ve been waiting for a possible sequel. Now that it’s here, I have the pleasure of experiencing it, along with the pang of having finished it.”

Rade Serbedzija as Nikolai Katinsky, a former KGB agent living in exile in London after defecting at the end of the Cold War. Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner, the deputy director-general of MI5 and head of operations and designated "Second Desk".

Slough House, Book 7 | Slough House

If his marriage had been strong to begin with, he sometimes lectured himself, it would have survived his professional humiliation, but the truth, he’d come to understand, held a tighter focus. If he himself had been strong, he would have ensured that his marriage survived. As it was, his marriage was definitely a thing of the past, what with Louisa being on the scene. He was pretty sure Clare wouldn’t tolerate that particular development, and while he hadn’t told her about it, he wasn’t convinced she didn’t know. Women were born spooks, and could smell betrayal before it happened. Hobden meets with Judd and tries to convince him to go public with the information that Hassan's kidnapping is a setup, only to be rebuked. Curly is seen making a series of discreet calls with a burner phone, implying he is Taverner's mole. Hassan tries to escape and is threatened by Moe. Giving him a chance to save face, Taverner offers Lamb's team the opportunity to signal to her man the raid is about to commence, allowing him to escape with Hassan. He, River, Min and Louisa arrive at the property but upon entry discover it empty aside from Moe's beheaded corpse.
