About this deal

This shoe blends moderate stability and versatility together pretty well. For lifting, I’d suggest capping your loading to about 315 lbs as this is when you’ll start to notice a little compression in this shoe, so if you’re casual with your strength work with HIIT this shoe works well. Best Minimalist Feeling Training Shoes

Another consideration to think about with the Nano X3 and TriBase Reign 5 is their heel-to-toe drop differences. In the Nano X3, you have a heel-to-toe drop of 7mm, and in the TriBase Reign 5, you have a much lower heel-to-toe drop of 2mm. Then the Hyperlift insert in the heel adds a nice level of stability for different types of lifting and stability shouldn’t be an issue in this model. I also like that the Metcon 9’s upper has been improved and is a bit more durable than the Nike Metcon 8. To break down the performance differences between the UA TriBase Reign 5 and Reebok Nano X3, I’ll cover how these perform in a wide range of contexts. I’ll discuss their performance for lifting, CrossFit, versatile training, short runs, and daily wear.

My Favorite Cross-Training Shoes Picks

In my opinion, the volume gives this shoe a slightly wider fit (emphasis on the slightly) despite having a similar last construction to the TriBase Reign 4. This model’s blend of stability and versatility is good for most WODs and their durability regarding their sole and upper seem to be good for most demands from CrossFit as well. With rope climbs, the WARP upper did well with abrasion resistance and the toe wrap feels durable for burpees. I think if you’re someone who likes to lift, do functional fitness and short runs, do some HIIT here and there, and want a shoe that can hold its own for jumping rope then the Reebok Nano X3 can be a good safe bet. Best for Short Runs Please, Drew, don’t regale us with any sweaty groin stories – I’ve probably lost the audience already.

One person says: “I have been using these for a couple of weeks and the difference they have made to resistance workouts is noticeable. I usually wear running trainers which are comfortable but not as practical for HIIT and lifting. Not 5 stars because not as pretty as some other shoes. Otherwise would recommend!” Below, I’ve included a table of consistent test I (we) do on all of our cross training shoes. As of right now, I’ve performed all of these, and I’m still putting these shoes to the test. Since they’re a newer model, and a first model at that, it’s tough to say how these shoes will hold up in regards to gym performance in a year from now, although, I have some starting thoughts below. Movement Test Below, I’ll cover the key construction differences to note between the UA TriBase Reign 4 versus 5 versus Vital, and I’ll cover them in different parts to make this section more digestible. Outsole After performing a smoke test on the Nano X3 in the lab, we gave it a score of 4 out of 5 for ventilation. In the gym, this meant that our feet were consistently aerated and kept dry. Note, the Reign Vital works for strength training, but I find its mesh upper to have a lower profile through the toe box, which gives it a snugger fit when lifting and training.

UA TriBase Reign 5 Vs Reebok Nano X3 Sizing

Arune: I touched on this earlier, but you can really do a lot – and comfortably – in the Under Armour TriBase Reign 5. From rowing to air bike to short runs to functional fitness, this shoe is built for a very well-rounded idea of fitness. While I wouldn’t call it the best at any one of those things, it is able to do them all at a very high level. Despite all having similar last construction, there are a couple of subtle nuances to note about their sizing. For example, the Reign Vital has the snuggest toe box due to its mesh upper and the volume it provides. Second, this is a good model for those who want a shoe for lighter lifting and class-style sessions. This shoe’s stability is pretty good up to about 275 lbs, so if you’re lifting lighter than that, then you should enjoy the level of stability this shoe delivers. The NOBULL Trainer features tremendous flexibility, which makes it a fabulous shoe to wear for HIIT workouts and agility drills. After putting it through our 90 degree bend test, we found that it is 16.9% more flexible than the average training shoe. To test the performance of the UA TriBase Reign 5, I took this shoe through a variety of workouts and training contexts. I tested how this shoe performs for lifting, CrossFit, versatile training, short runs, and daily wear.

On a daily wear basis, the UA TriBase Reign 5 can work and it’s comfortable enough, but it’s not a cross-training shoe that I would first reach for when it comes to all-day wear. I think you’ll get more out of the TriBase Reign 5 if you save them for training. Alright, onto the heel, aka the area of cross training shoes most get concerned with. The offset of this model is 2mm, and t he heel of this shoe has a reinforced plastic material on the external portion towards the bottom of the heel for additional support. It doesn’t sit as high as others on the market, but it did a fairly good job at providing that stable-esque feeling on the heel. UA TriBase Reign HeelDrew: Yes, it was. Under Armour’s TriBase tech feels like gluing my feet to the floor, especially during any heavy lifts. Honestly, I even feel the difference when doing the bench press. My feet stay thoroughly planted allowing me to access the maximum amount of force from my muscles. As a tall guy that has to deal with a long range of motion, the extra stability is helpful. Improved Upper In the TriBase Reign 5, the lacing system takes an asymmetric or anatomical shape. There are four lower internal loop eyelets and a top eyelet that also projects over the bottom four eyelets. Over the course of my workout sessions and testing of the UA TriBase Reign 5, I’ve found multiple things to like about this shoe.
