The strains in the Smidge Optimal Probiotic capsules are sourced U.S., as is the production of the final product. Start low and slow: Smidge® supplements are premium, pure and potent. Therefore, it's critically important to start slowly, with a lower dosage than recommended. For example, a very small dose every other day, or even once a week, until you can determine how the supplement affects your body and what dosage feels right for you. Smidge recommends taking your probiotic with a meal or directly before the meal (around the same time daily). It's beneficial if the meal also contains some natural, organic fat or oil.

I recommend trying Smidge Infant if you are having severe digestive issues or severe D-lactate issues. It might be better tolerated with half of the probiotic being comprised of Bifidobacteria infantis (a well-tolerated strain), and the removal of L. plantarum which can produce some D-lactate during plateau phases of the growth cycle. 21 Pepsin and protease peptidase complex (with exopeptidase and DPP-IV enzymes) also support optimal protein digestion, as well as casein and gluten digestion.*

Comfortable and thorough digestion: Probiotics support a healthy digestive system and also play critical roles in helping the body break down and absorb nutrients. They even produce critical vitamins when the body is in need, like K2 and several B vitamins. And maintaining regularity (sans constipation or occasional diarrhea).* So you can go every single day with ease.* I do recommend probiotic supplements for some people to improve their digestive health, although the jury is still out on their efficacy and if they implant. Studies of people taking probiotic supplements show that CFU (colony-forming unit) amounts of probiotics cultured in their stool return to normal a few weeks after supplementation. These results indicate that taking probiotic supplements may not cause them to implant into the digestive tract’s mucosal layer and increase the overall amounts of probiotic bacteria in our microbiome. The ingestion of probiotics may only modulate the immune system and, in doing so, may benefit people greatly depending on the strain. For others, however, it may cause different immune reactions worsening their symptoms. In people with severe Th1 / Th2 dominance, it is hard for me to recommend Smidge or any probiotic supplement for that matter.

What I seek in a probiotic is (clinical) EFFICACY. Regarding GutPro®, it begs the question, what specific efficacy has GutPro® demonstrated? The company has done no clinical research on their ingredients and the formulation(s). The ingredients appear to be readily available off-the-library shelf ingredients. In fact, they have zero published studies for their GutPro® product(s). Not even small-sample (biased) studies. It appears they have no financial investment in documenting GutPro’s efficacy. So, what are they trying to protect by deflecting my inquiry?
