About this deal

We believe an “Islay” whisky should live and breathe the fresh salt tang of Islay air, all its life. I get very dark caramel, and chocolate as well as a smoldering, insence-y kind of smoke as well as a savory meatiness. A 15 year old single malt from the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, and a rather well-sherried one at that! As well as adding complexity and depth to this single malt, the Islay grown barley goes beyond just the pursuit of flavour - evoking a true sense of place. Stuart Doyle from Islay Taxis purchased a drone recently and has uploaded some incredible videos to Youtube. This bottling of its heavily peated Port Charlotte single malt Scotch whisky was matured in a combination of sherry butts and American oak casks, and also enjoying a finishing period in Sauternes wine casks! Trickle distilled through our tall, narrow necked stills, the resulting rich and aromatic spirit has all the power of peat with the elegance and finesse for which our stills are famous. Silent for the latter part of the Second World War, Bruichladdich closed its in-house maltings in 1961, bringing malt in from the Islay maltings at Port Ellen. It was distilled in 2005 and matured in a first-fill sherry hogshead until 2021, when it was bottled up by The Red Cask Co.

Today the range is vast; many cask finishes, or 'ACE'd (additional cask enhancement) whiskies, have been released as well as the formerly mentioned peated offerings and, following a few successful years, the ‘Laddie’s’ future looks promising. Bruichladdich is once again showing the love it has for its home on its sleeve with another edition of its Islay Barley single malt Scotch whisky. It's peated to 40ppm, and drawn from a combination of first-fill American whiskey casks, second-fill American whiskey casks and second-fill French wine casks. Port Charlotte distillery (also known as Rhins distillery and Lochindaal distillery) was a Scotch whisky distillery on the island of Islay, off the west coast of Scotland from 1829 to 1929. And there’s Port Charlotte, which offers what’s probably closest to the canonical Islay style: robustly smoky whiskies with a maritime tinge. From Bruichladdich's super heavily peated Octomore range, Event Horizon was released to celebrate Fèis Ìle 2019. You can party like it's Fèis Ìle 2022 with this cracking limited edition from Bruichladdich, originally released as a distillery exclusive to celebrate the annual festival on its home isle. From where I lived I could see the Port Charlotte Pier and the many folk visiting it and kids jumping off it.The ‘Laddie’, as it is affectionately known, is often considered to be the fruitiest, most inventive Islay malt and, indeed, there has been some contention as to whether it has truly attained Islay-status.
