About this deal

As Cady learned roughly 2.4 seconds after walking into the party, it was not. Cady may be a well-traveled math whiz, but when it comes to high school cliques, she has a lot to learn. Heron…Cady Heron While Barnes tried to stay away from recreating any looks in the movie, he did let one iconic look slip in: Damian’s sweatshirt and sunglasses costume from the gym scene, right down to the same color blue.

CADY (V-O): In the regular world, Halloween is when children dress up in costumes and beg for candy. In Girl World, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it. The hardcore girls just wear lingerie and some form of animal ears. Unfortunately, no one told me about the slut rule, so I showed up like this. The next item you’ll want to get is a tri-striped medal. This medal is worn by Cady and her friends during the movie and is a symbol of their status as Mathletes. You can find medals like this online or at party supply stores. Make sure that the medal you choose is similar to the one in the movie to make your costume more accurate. Then there's The Plastics. Cady is fascinated by Regina and her minions. Okay, so she's fascinated by Regina—Gretchen and Karen, not so much. Regina's species is unlike anything Cady's ever seen, and their rituals are all-consuming, with superficial rules aplenty, right down to how often they can wear ponytails. It's exhausting, and yet by Cady's own admission, dazzling:

CADY: Being at Old Orchard Mall kind of reminded me of being in Africa, by the watering hole, when the animals are in heat. Here's what Janis says—after she tells Cady that she's not pretending to be Plastic anymore; she is Plastic: Oh, let me think about that. I would think that the color pink has gotten a little brighter, maybe it's more magenta than the pale pink that we used. The skirts might be a little longer, the shape might be a little different. I'm probably not saying exactly what you'd like me to say, but honestly in the realm of 10 years it's probably just the silhouettes that have changed. When he's not busy crafting imaginative costumes, Doc Cotton loves nothing more than a good party. He's the one who knows how to turn any gathering into a memorable event, infusing it with fun and excitement.

The Santa outfits they were--well, those were a little scanty weren't they? What we didn't want it to be--and hopefully it's not--we didn't want it to be trashy. And so there was a little element of some sort of taste. Also, by now the shapes are all so different. Now you'll see someone in a tight skirt and a looser T-shirt or looser sweater, but 10 years ago everything was really tight. The midriff was showing. We read millions of teen magazines and looked through millions of high school yearbooks from all over the country. But real schools are not quite as glossy, and we wanted a little more gloss just given the subject matter of the group. It's called the Plastics. They're the fashion dictators of the school, and we wanted them to be more like the brightest, shiniest ball on the Christmas tree. And then we set people in around them as far as the costumes go. We tried to have a little bit of individuality in the group. Regina sort of told everyone else what to do. Within the realm of that, Gretchen was a little more demure and a little sweeter, which sort of evoked the cardigan, and Karen was truly the follower. She would do a little bit of either Regina or Gretchen, and they would tell her what to do and she would do it. When you put Cady into the mix, and she begins to surpass Regina is when it became really fun. Regina slips into her Juicy warmups which, at the time, was kind of couch potato-y. Janis and Damian do not look like the Plastics at all, but have their own sense of style and have their own wills. They have a plan too, but it just might not have been the plan of the Plastics.Okay, I'm going to forgive you because I'm a very Zen person... and I'm on a lot of pain medication right now. The costumes in Mean Girlsrun the gamut from high-end boutique to hand-me-down plaid, animal feather chic to quotable tees. To complete your Cady Heron everyday look costume, the first item you’ll want to acquire is a red fitted sweater. This sweater is a key element in replicating Cady’s casual yet teasing look, and it’s a staple piece in the movie. You can find a red fitted sweater online or at clothing stores that sell vintage and retro clothing. Ouch. Janis's words slice Cady to the bone and help her realize that she's been self-absorbed and shallow and generally lost sight of what's important. In other words, Janis is right: Cady has become a full-fledged Plastic, and cold and shiny isn't a good look for her. The Evolution of Cady Instead, Cady follows a traditionally male comedic arc throughout her junior year at North Shore. She messes up, but then she grows up. She learns to not be a self-centered jerkwad, and she gets the guy in the end.

Those shreds of self-awareness are what set Cady apart from most of her peers. On some level, she understands that a person's worth doesn't have anything to do with how shiny their hair is or what kind of car they drive. To complete your Cady Heron Halloween costume, the first item you’ll want to acquire is a white lacy dress. This dress is a key element in replicating Cady’s zombies bride look and is a staple piece in the movie for Halloween party. You can find a lacy white dress online or at clothing stores that sell vintage and retro clothing. They're all great and wonderful, and were so much fun to work with. I believe Lindsay was the first one we began to work with, and then the others came in. You just start trying on the proper shape, the proper styles, and then put that over in a corner, and you begin working with the next actor and doing the same. They were all of course, and they still are, young and beautiful, so that is half the battle. There was nobody that we had to make look better. They had boundless energy. They were all forever agreeable to try on, and try on. Lindsay had the most costume changes, probably around 59, but each one of them had over 30 changes. Damian’s look might seem more simple but there's the same amount of thought behind it. When Grey Henson takes the stage singing "A Cautionary Tale," audiences might notice a familiar face on his T-shirt: RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Alyssa Edwards, complete with her iconic phrase "BEAST."The actors' input really helped drive the success of the costumes, Barnes admitted, adding with a laugh, "I mean, they should get co-design credits." Oh no, trust me, I know exactly how to play it. But wait, aren't you *so* mad at Gretchen for telling me? Because if you are you can tell me, it was a really bitchy thing for her to do.
