About this deal

To remove or replace a PIR alarm sensor, first you need to remove sensor lid (normally requiring unscrewing a single screw) and plastic lens cover inside (if present). N.B. this will set the alarm off. To silence alarm, enter 4 digit code (a tamper message should appear). Is it possible to replace this PIR lens, or do I have to throw the baby out with the bathwater and replace the whole sensor piece? The PIR lens/translucent cover for my motion sensor for my outdoor light kit broke. Crumbled to the touch after about a year outside despite being made for outdoors. Once you’ve removed your sensor, as noted above a ‘tamper alarm’ will go off. To enable you to set / unset the alarm as normal you need to ‘OMIT’ a zone. To do this, you need to follow the instructions of your alarm panel (you can Google this) – in general omitting a zone is relatively straight-forward. Still, need help? A PIR sensor can detect infrared energy from an object. This infrared energy is detectable in the form of light generated by the heat of an object. So, for example, people and animals can be detected, as also other things that create heat, such as cars, motorbikes, etc. If an object enters within the detection range or field of view of a PIR sensor, it will trigger the action. What is the Difference Between a PIR Sensor & a Motion Sensor?

It appears Allen & Roth is a "house brand" of Lowes, meaning Lowes buyers visit Shenzhen and go around to Chinese makers and wheel and deal to get things like this made as a limited run. However in their defense, they make the manufacturer build to US safety standards and secure a UL listing ETL listing for the item. Because US retailers are required to do that. N.B.1 when you disconnect the wires from the sensor if you have a tamper zone wired in, then this will set the alarm off. Simply enter your code to stop the alarm. At this point a ‘tamper warning’ will appear on your alarm. PIR stands for Passive Infrared. We commonly use the term PIR in the context of a PIR sensor, which detects movement to initiate an electronic device. When do we use PIR? Double Sensors - motion detection in front of the light and also underneath the fixture and against walls. PIR sensor switches are particularly useful in situations where you need hands free lighting automation, such as entering a room with your hands full or needing hands free automation for hygiene purposes, such as public toilets, corridors or other buildings where light is only needed as and when required.PIR lights are often available with a range of different adjustable settings. For example, on many types of PIR sensors, settings like the detection range, lux, the length of time that the light remains on after being triggered, the brightness of the light, and the physical direction of the sensor can all be adjusted. The typical settings of PIR lights can include: N.B.2 if you want to carry on using your alarm system, you’ll have to ‘OMIT’ the zone that you’ve just removed, otherwise the alarm won’t set / work (see notes below on how to get your system working again). I reached out to manufacturer Maximus/Jiawei for a replacement PIR lens. They are sending me one free of charge as a one-time replacement. I have selected the answer that identified the part for me as that was the major part of my original question. If you’re decorating your house or doing some home renovations and need to move a PIR alarm sensor, then the good news is that it’s relatively straight-forward to do.

If there’s a plastic ‘lens’ inside the sensor, carefully remove this too – as otherwise it’s likely to fall out Lux - fixed or adjustable level of environmental brightness to differentiate between night and day. Please note – you need to make sure that the positive / negative power wires don’t touch – as this will short the alarm, blowing a fuse. I am not asking where I can buy this part (and I am reaching out to the manufacturer now that I have the part name); I just want to know whether it is possible (and worth my time) to replace this part or the whole item. A motion sensor is triggered based on a percentage of pixel change within its field of view. This percentage can vary depending on the sensitivity of the sensor. A motion sensor is similar to a PIR sensor because it will trigger an action when objects enter its field of view, but it uses size as a measure instead of infrared energy. What is the Difference between a PIR Sensor and a Dusk To Dawn Sensor? A Dusk To Dawn sensor detects the level of brightness of an area, and if the brightness reaches a predetermined level, it will initiate an action. For example, Dusk To Dawn sensors are used on certain outdoor lights to switch the light on once the day becomes dusk. Then, as morning comes and brightness increases, the Dusk Until Dawn sensor will switch the light off. So while a PIR sensor activates the light based on detected movement, a Dusk Until Dawn sensor activates the light based on the detected brightness of the environment. The level of brightness that activates the Dusk Until Dawn sensor is known as the lux. How to Adjust PIR Lights
