About this deal

One of my favorite projects from the book is the Velvet Windowpane Throw. It is made with the gorgeous Bernat Velvet yarn in a beautiful plum color. And ends with a beautiful showstopper blanket incorporating many of the techniques and stitches learned along the crochet journey. Modern Crochet: Patterns & Designs for the Minimalist Maker is perfect for those who love clean, simple styles. Sarah-Jayne Fragola is the creator of Bella Coco Crochet, which she started in 2011. She specializes in teaching people to crochet, using simple and structured methods so that anyone can learn how to start! If you are looking for a comprehensive, beginner’s guide, this is the book for you. Helpfully, the projects have been arranged from easiest to most complex, matching Fragola’s goal that anyone who works their way from one item to the next will be able to crochet with confidence by the time they are done. While the book is primarily intended for newbies, those looking to brush up on their skills will also find plenty to appreciate here—and some clever new patterns as well. Fragola has created a charming how-to guide for a craft that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

In the second instalment of the Absolute Beginners Series you will learn to do a UK Double Crochet/US Single Crochet. It’s really important that you remember that there are different terms in the UK and the US. The stitches are the same, but the terminology is different. I know this can be a little confusing, but if you learn this from the start, you’re at a great advantage. You can find a great chart for the different terms HERE. The projects start with easy patterns and progress to more complicated ones, with each pattern practicing a skill learned. I also adore the Velvet Flower Rows Blanket in the colors Misty Gray and Snowy White. This Bernat Baby Velvet looks so soft. What a sweet gift for any baby. While this is a “how-to” manual for beginners to learn how to crochet, I don’t think it’s quite as beginner friendly as the Bella Coco book. With Olympic diver and British sports personality Tom Daley about to publish his debut book Made with Love it’s got us thinking about other must-read crochet books every crochet crafter needs on their bookshelf. In the Essentials section you will find the fundamentals like tools, stitches and reading a pattern. Before getting your hook into any projects, there’s a few other things that I covered in the book including: Yarn over TWICE and insert your hook into the chain or stitch, yarn over and pull through (you will have four loops on the hook) yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook (you will have three loops on the hook) yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook (you will have two loops on the hook) yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops on the hook.
