About this deal

I can't speak on the "Cleaning thing", and frankly, I would avoid turning your system upside down to fix a high CPU issue, so whatever that entailed is not where I'll be assisting. After plugging in and powering up, I installed and opened the Universal Control application, assuming it would provide a way to create cue mixes and provide other software mixing features, which is usually the case with units that offer this many channels. Connect and turn on quantum and allow device to always connect (I think mac has a similar process as well). Hi there everyone. I am planning to buy a Quantum interface and am trying to decide between the original Quantum (26x32) and the recently released Quantum 2626.

ADAT Optical/Dual SMUX inputs/outputs: 16x16 channels at 44.1 or 48 kHz; 8x8 channels at 88.2 or 96 kHz I would never have been able to set the buffer that low in a session of that size on a USB 2.0 interface. The result would be compromised audio and error messages saying I’d used up all the CPU power. I would have had to set the buffer so high that latency would be an issue. This is a fantastic unit and, when using software monitoring exclusively, it remains as easy to use as its predecessor. But the stripping of features from the preamps and studio/headphone monitoring found on the more expensive Quantum might constitute a cut too far for potential buyers. Key featuresThe front panel includes eight XLR/TRS mic/line inputs, where two have Hi-Z inputs, with corresponding gain controls and two-tone LED metering. steinber wrote2-My computer is a 2018 Mac Mini that uses Thunderbolt 3, with a USB-C form factor connector. That means that with the newer Quantum 2626 I could just plug in a normal thunderbolt 3 "C to C" cable, but with the original Quantum, I would need to use a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Also missing, but not of as much consequence, is individually assignable 48V phantom-power. Phantom-power is assignable via bank control switches. Input channels 1 through 4 are on one bank phantom-power circuit and input channels 5 through 8 are on the other bank phantom-power circuit. Switch off and unplug quantum and restart computer. (I did not open Universal Control after it finished installing). If the Quantum has the same latency as the 2626, I might return my 2626 to benefit from the improved routing capabilities of the Quantum. But if the 2626 has lower latency, I'll probably keep it and deal with the routing limitations.

Removal of some features that drop the price is common and standard practice for products. Thunderbolt tech is not cheap to develop and it is hard to meet these price points. I've already outlined the differences in the products so I'm not going over it again. Only a single Thunderbolt port is present here too, making it far more challenging to take advantage of device daisy-chaining, particularly if you have a notebook with only one or two Thunderbolt-compatible ports. Following the lead of other makers, there’s no computer connection cable included in the box. Sure, some users might need additional adapters to use with legacy ports but the vast majority would use a Thunderbolt-compatible USB-C By the way, would you be interested on this article about 5+ Ways to Connect a Mixer to an Audio Interface? My "music computer" is a late 2015 27" iMac with upgraded 32GM of RAM, still running Intel, so I was not at the silicon level yet. I told Louis I was interested in switching to Studio One Professional for home use. Because of my desk and room setup in my home studio, I'm limited, and I needed inputs in the front of the interface. I am also only recording into the DAW most of the time. I did mention to Louis I might upgrade to a better laptop/computer in the future. The PreSonus Quantum offers spectacularly low latency and a simplified way of working. Is it the best Thunderbolt interface you can buy? In as much as the PreSonus software is straightforward to use, if you want to get the freebies that are on the Studio Magic bundle you will have to be more resilient.Pros of the PreSonus Quantum 2626.
