About this deal

The other downside of this book is in the choice of a narrative way of telling - sometimes a couple of sentences are blatantly untrue, refuted immediately, while it also leads you down dead ends on occasion. The ending is very abrupt, with not even an epilogue to talk about the fate of those still left alive by that point. So a bit disappointing, as it didn't really deliver on what was promised and I'll need to get some actual information somewhere else. Istanbul is one of my favorite places in the world and Süleymaniye Mosque is one of my favorite places in Istanbul. Enjoy a bit of alfresco dining on the beautiful dining table outside the kitchen or perhaps a morning coffee and croissant from the nearby bakery on one of the elevated terraces. Freshen up in the bathroom on the first floor which houses a bath with an overhead shower, noticing the eye for detail in the lion motif within the basin. This is a weird book and, to be honest, probably one I wouldn't have finished reading if I weren't reviewing it. While it tells the story of Suleyman, the focus is really more on the rise and fall of his right hand man and the relationship between Venice and the Ottoman Empire, as I think as much space is given to the Gritti (the older one the Doge, the younger his illegitimate son) as the emperor himself. This meant that I felt as though I came away from this book knowing much more about the personality of those three than I did about Suleyman. It's the story of an age full of fascinating and strong characters, an age of importante changes like the Reform and Renaissance, an age where two different culture clashes and live side by side at the same time.

Gas fired AGA oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, Smart TV, TV, selection of books, WiFiBreakfast was included, which was your standard hotel buffet breakfast: English breakfast, pastries, yoghurt, fruit, coffee machine. Rome’s death throes sputtered out not in the fifth century, as is widely believed, but in 1453 when Constantinople fell to the Ottoman Sultan, Mehmet II, “the Conqueror.” He then renamed the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire Istanbul. Yet the Ottoman Empire—eventually Rome’s rival in its vastness—did not reach its full extent until the reign of the Conqueror’s great-grandson, Suleyman “the Magnificent.” The Lion House is the story of Suleyman’s rise to greatness laid out in glorious prose. It’s the first of a planned trilogy by author Christopher de Bellaigue about the man celebrated as the longest-reigning and most influential leader of Islam after Muhammad. I liked the style of this glimpse into Suleyman’s quest to gain territory in Europe. It’s well structured narrative nonfiction that reads beautifully and compellingly. Conran + Partners’ complete refurbishment and retrofit of the 34-storey building for Almacantar into 82 high-end flats, has taken this 60s heritage as a cue, even down to chamfered door handles inspired by the rhomboid forms of the façade.

The bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in, super king! The roof terrace is a lovely space with great views. The location was so convenient for shops, cafes, pubs being in the centre of town but still quiet. The property is outstanding and equipped to a very high standard indeed. There are also excellent spaces outside to relax, have a drink or eat when the weather is good. The location is perfect, right next to the centre of Ashbourne and easy travelling distance to the many attractions of the Peak District. The owners have really thought of everything to make your stay a really enjoyable one and I would highly recommend Lion House. We will certainly want to return when we are able to. I d0n't know if this non fiction, historical fiction, or whatever. I know I loved this book and was enthralled by what I was reading. As expected being on a main road, it can get noisy with heavy traffic but it wouldn’t put us off staying here again. Close to all amenities in Ashbourne- we sampled many of the fabulous local cafes and there are some lovely little shops to mooch in close by.

Pass through the original strong room door and prison-like gate into the beautiful country kitchen where a gas fired AGA and plenty more excellent appliances can assist you in rustling up some fabulous meals to be enjoyed around the dining table. I absolutely recommend Lion House to anyone and I would love to return one day! We had an amazing stay and I did not want to leave. Maybe the author wanted this all along and the publishers have spun it this way. But I’m annoyed. I wanted a book about Suleyman the Magnificent. This is not it.Christopher de Bellaigue is a regular contributor to some of the world’s most trusted media outlets, has held fellowships at Oxford and Harvard and has lectured in boardrooms and universities around the world.”
