About this deal

Raw emotions of guilt, shame, and jealousy are explored, as young Charise interrogates the power dynamics of big sisterhood and recognizes Daniel’s strengths."— Book Horn Magazine, starred review I am absolutely thrilled to have added a new author to my bookshelf! I didn’t find out until the end that this was actually the third in the series of DI Sam Clayton books. It works perfectly as a standalone but now I am intrigued as to what I missed (off to hunt for them…) A woman is discovered murdered, impaled by her cello. Other members of the orchestra are targeted and an accidental death in the recent past is revealed to be murder too. Musical politics are at the centre of the case that Clayton and his team need to investigate. There is also a personal worry as Clayton’s girlfriend is in the choir associated with the orchestra… Play Dead was an excellent police procedural novel. The police team is at the heart of the book and their investigation takes place before our eyes. There is humour and banter as you would expect from a team and this gives a degree of realism without the hierarchical tensions that are often rife in police books. The police characters are well developed and author Anne Penketh has made Clayton is particularly easy to like. The suspects are all acting suspiciously so I had no idea who was responsible for the murders. All of the investigation loose ends are tied up by the end of the book whcih I personally find more satisfying than open ended novels. There is plenty of scope for more books as Clayton’s personal life has unfinished threads and Norwich is a big place, lots of potential crimes!

The Bad Sister: A tense and emotional psychological thriller

Apple TV's newest series Bad Sisters adapts the Flemish show Clan, following the Garvey family before and after the death of one of the sisters' husbands. The man - John Paul - had been verbally abusive to all of them, as well as condescending and controlling toward his wife and daughter. The series follows the sisters' attempts to kill John Paul in one timeline, with insurance agent Thomas Claffin trying to prove the unnatural manner of his death in another.Even though the story started off quite slow, it was still intriguing as I found myself needing to know why and how Connie's story connected to Stephanie's. It was revealed as a slow unravel throughout the book which was great as it definitely added to the suspense of the story. With every chapter that I read, the plot got more and more compelling and gripping. I found myself constantly guessing and read the second half of the book in one seating because I just couldn't put it down. Stephanie is running from her past. Even though she is under witness protection, "he" has found her. It was her testimony that put him away in a youth prison when he was but 8 years old ..and now he wants revenge. Her psychologist, Connie Summers, wants to help .. they even have things in common ... like they are both living under assumed names.

Yet, once we know how things are playing out, all of a sudden this character comes out of the woodwork and almost single-handedly takes over the story. They become the center from which everything else revolves. It's too bad that the author didn't find a middle ground for this character as it would have balanced out the story. Gilbert, Matthew (22 September 2022). "As title sequences go, 'Bad Sisters' is in good company". BostonGlobe.com . Retrieved 23 November 2022.In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hogan explained that she was attracted to the original story because the relationship between the sisters has dark undertones. “I love the sisters in the original, that dynamic of a five-headed monster. I liked the idea of doing an hour and a thriller,” Hogan said. Hogan comes from a large family and likely drew inspiration from personal experiences to write the series. She stated that while adapting the source material, she challenged herself to make the story more personal and relatable for her. WOW! WOW! WOW! When I read Sam Carringtons debut Saving Sophie I loved it and was waiting for more by her, so this was a must read and boy I was not disappointed. Bloody brilliant! Just what I needed to start off my year of books. Each chapter follows one of the characters, the ruthless Maxi, TV cookery hit Devon and the Hollywood princess Deeley.

Bad Sister touches on sibling relationships – Mom Read It

Now, let's talk about what I liked about this book. The plot itself was what drew me in. It didn't have me on the edge of my seat, but it did hold my interest and made me want to know how things ended. Each of the characters had something that I could relate to: Deeley was attracted to a married man (I know how thoughts of him could take over your mind, despite him being in a committed relationship to someone else), Devon had body image problems (I can relate to how difficult is to maintain a healthy weight, and constantly worrying about what other people think), and Maxie was a perfectionist and protective of her siblings (I'm the eldest of three, so I know that I would do anything to protect them). I enjoyed the plot twist, despite it being a little predictable. I loved for the betrayal and revenge, romance and wholesomeness that this book provided. I'm also the co-founder of On Wednesdays We Wear Capes (http://www.onwednesdays.net/), where I discuss pop culture and geek fandom from a female point of view.THEN: When flames rip through their family home, only teenager Stephanie and her younger brother escape unhurt. Brett always liked to play with fire, but now their dad is dead and someone has to pay the price. When a new author gives us a debut as brilliant Saving Sophie, you can be forgiven for wondering what else they have to offer. Was that it? Did they pour everything into that first manuscript? Will book two live up to our expectations.

Bad Sister - Macmillan

Three sisters, Teresa, Natalie and Jess have all been estranged. since the day their childhood friend Juno was found dead during a family party. There’s been much excitement as bloggers have been tweeting about reading Bad Sisters. Much enjoyment shared too. There are so many secrets that are slowly revealed with this book that at times it is hard to keep up with who knows what. Everything is wrapped up nicely by the end of the book which is good because I was already invested in the sisters and their stories. Flipping between multiple narratives and between past and present really adds to the story! This book was fast paced after the first few chapters and kept my attention. The sisters are characters that are easy to connect to and the plot- whew, hold your breath because it will be a bumpy, sometimes dark ride to get to the ending! So - Bad Sisters. I'm a huge lover of audiobooks, so I nabbed this one and it's been my companion through chores for the last couple of weeks. By the time I was in the last third, I was doing as much laundry as I could, taking the dog for extra-long walks, and finding any reason at all to keep listening while I went about my day. It's engrossing. It's glitzy and sexy and full of family drama and dark secrets and murder. It's exactly as advertised, and I was completely engrossed.
