Therefore, any activity that you engage in where the goal is to tan the skin via sun exposure or a tanning bed is increasing your risk for skin cancer, and I don't advocate that.” The number one risk of using tanning oil is developing skin cancer and melanoma,” says Markowitz. She adds: “The number one cause for skin cancer is cumulative UV exposure over time, and this occurs with tanning and burning. While a sunburn has the added immediate discomfort, tanning has the same negative long-term side effects as a sunburn does. Even if you don't develop skin cancer over time, sun exposure can lead to premature aging and skin damage.” Peel and grate the carrots. Wash two carrots and use a vegetable peeler to remove the skin. You can discard the peels. Grate the carrots against the narrow sides of a box grater to shred the carrots finely. [1] X Research source

The debate surrounding whether or not carrot oil works as a tanning agent will likely rage on for a while, but that doesn't mean there's any harm in trying it. So long, of course, as you're using it with SPF too. Most of the tanning impact from carrot oil will also be a result of its natural colour, which will leave a slight bronze on the skin with frequent application. The reality, however, is much more complicated than it sounds. Not all carrot oils are made alike and, most importantly, not all will guarantee you that sun-kissed shade you're seeking.Summer is almost upon us, and with that comes a sleuth of new ideas on how to get the best tan possible. If you want an extra boost for potential tanning possibilities, try adding some carrot oil to your daily moisturiser too. Put the slices into a container then fill the container with your choice of either sunflower oil or sweet almond oil. When it comes to tanning, understanding the distinction between carrot oil and carrot seed oil is crucial. First of all, carrot seed essential oil sadly won't help your tan. Many tanning oils don’t include SPF protection, but that doesn’t mean you have to go without. Some come with the most basic levels of sun protection—we’re talking SPF 5 here—while others get up as high as SPF 25, which is high for a tanning oil. Consider your skin’s needs, and remember that adequate protection should always be prioritized.

With that out of the way, here are some top tips on how to make the most of your carrot oil for tanning: Put the slices into your chosen container and fill the container with sweet almond oil. You can also use sunflower oil or olive oil if you prefer. Make sure to leave a bit of room near the top of the container. Like all essential oils, carrot seed is extremely potent and should never be applied to the skin undiluted. It's also a good idea to perform a patch test before using carrot seed oil anywhere on your body. So, what's the deal? Is carrot oil good for tanning? Does carrot oil darken skin in the way the interest claims it to? We'll be targeting all your frequently asked questions right here. What's the difference between carrot oil and carrot seed oil? Carrot oil, on the other hand, is usually a much gentler homemade remedy, made by combining carrot extract (or crushed-up carrots, in most cases) with a plant-based carrier oil.The recommended SPF number you are looking for is in the SPF 15 to SPF 30 range,” says Dr. Orit Markowitz, a dermatologist and skin cancer specialist at Optiskin Medical in New York City. “The key with SPF is proper application. I recommend my patients wear SPF 30 and reapply every two hours.” Carrot oil contains similar benefits to its essential oil counterpart, largely thanks to the carrier oils that are used to make it. Certain carrier oils like sweet almond or jojoba contain deeply moisturising and nourishing properties that are ideal for skin health.
