About this deal

This is John Marrs at his finest and I would say his best book so far. I don’t want to use the obvious phrase ‘twists and turns’ but there were so many that I couldn’t guess what was going to come next. The story is extremely dark but absolutely full of atmosphere and tension. It genuinely does grip you so much you just can’t stop reading until problems get resolved and then straight away something else will happen and you’ll think “oh I’ll just read on and see what happens with this” .. before you know it you’ve finished it in a day.. Told in different peoples words, also in different timelines, with the odd newspaper report thrown in all makes for a brilliant read. Admittedly, it was the cover that sold the story for me, since I had previously read a book by this author (The One) and as I was not particularly fond of that one, I didn't have too high expectations in advance.

In 'The Minders' (Berkley, Feb.), Marrs envisions a future in which advances in DNA technology enable massive amounts of data to be stored in people’s brains. Hi there - really sorry but I don't! British writers aren't often asked to provide them for our books, it tends to be more of an American and Canadian thing so I've been told. Huge apologies. Please thank your book club for me and send them my very b Keep It in the Family is a tour-de-force of a novel. Darkly disturbing and with twists that just keep on coming, this is John Marrs at his best, bringing you a family very much at their worst. I read it in one sitting." - Sarah Pinborough

I have such a rollercoaster reading relationship with this author. The Good Samaritan blew my mind and I also enjoyed What Lies Between Us. All of his other books have been a DNF - yes, even The One. The One being the book that is probably raved about the most on Goodreads in this genre and I hated it. So how did I fare with his latest?

The spiel sounded really interesting and the book is by John Marrs, an author I have read and enjoyed in the past. I thought I had guessed the twist at the half way mark but I was wrong and that's what I like with John Marrs he always has you guessing until the very end when all is revealed! Creative storyline. Characters that were kind of awful, but not in a way that made me dislike it, but more in a way that worked for the story to where the characters matched with what was taking place between this messy secretive family. Just when you think it’s about as bad as it could be, there’s a new twist in the plot that makes their situation even more untenable. It’s hard to feel sympathy for any of them, trapped in sins of their own commission, omission, or both. In this chilling novel from bestselling author John Marrs, a young couple’s house hides terrible secrets—and not all of them are confined to the past.Building and supporting a community of self-published authors dedicated to both sharing experiences and learning as equals. I have loved all of John Marrs books but this is definitely his best one yet. It’s deliciously dark, fast paced, well written and has a fabulous twist at the end. I've not read Marrs more futuristic stories. I just don't care. But, he once wrote a book about the most messed up family. I loved it! So, I'd been waiting for something new. Something that didn't involve technology. Secrecy shrouds the mystery of the attic, but when shards of a dark truth start to emerge, Mia realises the danger is terrifyingly present. She is prepared to do anything to protect her family—but is it already too late? Authors, if you are a member of the Goodreads Author Program, you can edit information about your own books.
