Bought these after having several cheaper pairs of (non Berghaus) fabric boots which didn't last, and failed to keep water out. I decided to buy the best I could afford and as these were in the sale, went ahead. They looked they would support my thin, wobbly ankles, as well as being lightweight (handy for travel by bus, train and plane as I don't drive). Additionally, as I often tend to get caked in mud living in Devon, I thought leather would be easier to clean. The Quest Prime GTX provided good comfort on a mixture of routes, though it’s best suited to defined trails in the mountains rather than the gnarliest terrain.

It’s not designed for full-on mountain use, but is a comfortable walking boot at a reasonable price for a model with full leather uppers. Lacing is via a combination of webbing loops at the toe end, then three sets of free-running metal lace loops and another pair of webbing loops directing down to the heel. A double set of metal hooks completes the lacing set-up. The boots come with an alternative pair of pale grey laces. Because the tongue is quite soft, care needs to be taken not to overtighten the laces to the extent they dig into the foot. So if your foot happens to be this shape, rather than trying to squeeze into a narrower boot, the Kisdon could be a good bet.
