About this deal

The 2005 year mark is Cinderella's glass slipper. The glass slipper was chosen to honor Cinderella's 55th Anniversary. Released in 1950, it's considered one of Walt's favorite films. Hercules is an adaptation of the Greek myth of the same name, but it’s more a retelling of DC Comics’ Superman origin story. It then blends Motown music, Michael Bolton, and the artwork of Gerald Scarfe (the man most famous for the animation in Pink Floyd’s The Wall). Somehow, Hercules still manages to be very entertaining and was received warmly by audiences and mostly warmly by critics. These 15 animated feature films – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Bambi, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone, The Jungle Book, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Rescuers and The Fox and the Hound – had only been shown at theaters, not television or any other format (except for The Sword in the Stone, which aired on television in 1985 for the first time). [2] These 15 movies laid the foundation upon which the Disney company was built. During each re-release to theaters (on a roughly seven-year cycle), they earned money comparable to new releases; it was thought the company would lose this revenue if they released the feature films on video or television. By the time the Masterpiece Collection replaced the Classics collection in the domestic market, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and The Aristocats were the only two of the original 15 classics that had not yet been released to video or shown on television (and the sole two pre-1985 single-narrative animated features not to be released in the Classics collection).

This quirky animated classic is often forgotten or disliked for its weird sense of humor and fast-paced action. It didn’t perform terribly well with critics but was adequate at the box office. It’s loosely based on the book A Day With Wilbur Robinson by William Joyce. Not one you’ll hear Disney talk about much these days. Bear in mind that we’re only going with official Disney princesses, so Disney animated classics like Atlantis, Hercules, and Tarzan can’t be included. Sorry, Kida, Meg, and Jane! This list does not include the Disney/Pixar films (such as Finding Nemo or Coco), nor does it include the many Direct-to-Video sequels (The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, for instance) produced by Disney over the years. There are of course, many sequels to popular Disney animated classics like Mulan 2 and Aladdin and The King of Thieves, but these films are not considered Disney animated classics and thus will not be listed.
