There are many approaches for Dark Angels Paint Colours, if you’re looking for Grimdark. This is the paint I find the best. And no, we aren’t;t using Dark Angels Contrast Paint. Whilst I love the Contrast Paints, I don’t use them the way GW suggest we do. Space Marines: Caliban Green is the perfect color for the steadfast and stalwart Space Marines, as it captures their indomitable spirit and unyielding determination. Its bold, vibrant hue is like a shining beacon of hope on the battlefield, inspiring your troops to greatness and victory. Once that’s figured out, I based everything that was going to be metallic in Leadbelcher thinned with Lahmian Medium, and everything Canoptek or an energy blade in Caliban Green thinned with water. Previously when working on Canoptek stuff I’ve used Caliban Green Spray (now out of production), and what I found here was that CG paint alone was a little bit more of a vibrant green than I really wanted for the base on the legs. Here I salvaged it by darkening down with a wash of Dark Angels Green contrast, for all later models I used 2:1 Caliban Green/Incubi Darkness, which gave what I wanted straight away. Once both are applied, I then apply a layer of thinned Ironbreaker to the silver as well. Next, zenithally airbrush on Citadel Zandri Dust at about a 60 degree angle. You’re looking to keep the Rhinox Hide in the underside and crevices of the model.

I then did a very heavy drybrush over the top with VMC Ivory, which produced a stippled texture like some sort of pitted stone. This is very easy and gets them to ‘battle ready’ status, but the weathering is what makes them pop. For reflex highlights, mix in a little bit of Scale 75 Speed Metal or White Alchemy Now, there is one big difference that you’ll notice now the minis are close up: the edge highlights. Because the Citadel Layer paints are much heavier than the Two Thin Coats Highlight paints, the edge highlight on the Citadel model is much more pigmented.
