About this deal

This used - by 2020 standards - narrow tyres and high pressures (23 mm and 116 psi), 77 kg rider, and showed that the TransX equated to dropping the pressure to 102 psi. The Redshift was a lot better, the equivalent being 78 psi. At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. As a person who has dealt with hand numbness due to bad technique, this would be a nice layer of protection. Have ShoskStop stems on a couple of bikes and find them great particularly on fast descents where high impact bumps can throw your hands off the bars and affect your vision. The easiest way to determine your handlebar size is to see if it's printed on the handlebar. This will require removing your current stem faceplate.

I preferred to go softer on the elastomers than suggested (10 on one bike and 20 on the other) but as said there's no sense of compression with normal riding and no diving under braking but going down hill above 30mph and the stem absorbs the impacts with little change on handling feel. Includes 5 swappable elastomers (2 pre-installed, 3 additional) to customise the ride feel for your bike, weight, and riding style. Includes 5 swappable elastomers (2 pre-installed, 3 additional) to customize the ride feel for your bike, weight, and riding style. In regard to the comment about it being nothing new compared to MTB stems from 30 years ago, the idea is similar but the execution has been massively updated and improved.

In general, you'll find the +30 deg stem provides a more upright, comfort-oriented fit, whereas the +/-6 deg stem puts you in a more performance-oriented riding position (standard for a typical road bike). While testing, I would go as far as to say that the stem has transformed the gravel bike and comfort offered when ridden on typical British terrain. It's for people wanting more comfort/less hand and arm vibration from the roads, without going to wider tyres.

Once you determine the length of your existing stem round to the nearest 10 mm and choose the closest match. in 100mm length, but looks like far less travel - more of a buzz damper than a bump tamer I guess, which is no bad thing. Would be interesting to see a review of that and any competitors. Five durometers of elastomer insert enable you to tune the suspension to your own preference. Jérémie Reuiller BMC I use on my Kinesis Tripster and I mostly ride bridleways and towpaths and it has made a big difference to my comfort levels.

degree in 80, 90, 100, 110, and 120mm lengths (in both standard 1 1/8" steerer and oversized 1 1/4" steerer)

During much of the test period I was riding 50mm carbon aero wheels with 25mm tubeless tyres – a rather radical departure from my usual 24mm alloy rims and 28mm tubeless. How does it feel? With the knowledge that my tyre volume and pressure could cope with the sort of impacts I normally try to avoid, I steered towards the roughest patches of tarmac, potholes, ancient cobbles and uneven gravel. Same idea as the Girvin Flexstem that I fitted to my mountain bike nearly 30 years ago and which was very effective in those pre suspension fork days. Nothing new under the sun. is our standard size, but we added the 280, 400, 450mm to allow for a wider range of fits. Measure your current seatpost from the clamp collar to the saddle rail:

From 80 through to 120mm in ten-millimetre increments and with the option for integrated tech mount out front, the stem is available for many different tastes and fits. This confirms the difference in effective travel, which is claimed to be 20mm on drop bars when holding the hoods and 10mm on flat bars. Take control - customize your suspension feel to float over obstacles and maintain control over rough terrain Suspension Stem Features Bike manufacturer says 'contraction of the market' following the pandemic has taken its toll on the sector BMC claims the torsional stiffness is equal to a standard stem and that you’ll only feel the effects of the suspension when it comes to smoothing out rougher surfaces. The stem comes with five elastomer rigidities that can be mixed and matched to fine-tune the feel. In total, there’s up to 20mm of tunable suspension.

Weight: While the stem is made from lightweight materials, it may still be slightly heavier than some other stem options, particularly those made from lighter materials such as carbon fiber. You can measure the length of your existing stem as shown in the following picture. The length is measured from the center of the handlebar to the center of the steerer tube. When braking hard on steep, rough descents the suspension effect lets you keep a firmer grip on the levers, which is a big bonus. The easiest way to determine your steerer tube size is to use a pair of calipers to directly measure the diameter or take your bike to the local bike shop and they will be able to measure it for you.
