About this deal

She felt more and more angry about Harthoorn’s comments as she walked across the quad, splashing through slush. What did a dried-up old man like him know about women and all the wearying and infuriating annoyances they had to tolerate? All the helpful advice foisted on them by men with their I know better voices. This latest Rizzoli installment is a proverbial breath of blessed air in the running series, focusing o bit on Angela Rizzoli - retired, bored, kinda-Karening her ‘hood in search of something wrong, marking herself as the local busy body. And Angela is convinced something is wrong. Jane is eye rolling her way through the ordeal with a REAL murder to solve - and this one is a head scratcher. The plot is somewhat complex in that there are at least three different storylines involving a murder, an abduction, and a stalker. But they all connect very nicely at the end for a satisfying finale. The eagerly anticipated new Rizzoli & Isles thriller, from the multi-million copy, No.1 bestselling author

Angela Rizzoli: Jane's mom is a busybody in her neighborhood (the watcher) and sees and hears everything. You gotta love her! However, she continues to blow up Jane's phone with reports driving her nuts. One quote: Angela Rizzoli "But tonight everything seems different, as if I've crossed into some parallel world and I'm now looking at the evil twin of my old neighborhood. A neighborhood where every house, every family , hides a secret." Angela Rizzoli, Jane’s mother is never far from the action and is conducting her own investigation into suspicious goings on across the road concerning her new neighbours. The problem is, Angela is struggling to get anyone to believe her when she tries to tell them what she has seen. Born in San Diego, California to Chinese American parents, she longed for a career as a writer, but her parents were skeptical that a writer’s salary could be lucrative, leading her to pursue a different course. She studied Anthropology at her undergraduate alma mater, Stanford University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in the year 1975.Well golly gee - has it really been five years since I last Kindle-thumbed my way through the adventures of detective Jane Rizzoli and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles? Big wonderful surprise: I received an advance copy of this one, the 13th (thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley). An even bigger one: I loved it. I feel like I’ve just caught up with some old friends I haven’t seen in years and I’m tempted to reread the entire series and binge the TV series (again) while I wait to be invited to join their next investigation.

I love this series, and I was so glad to see another book come out in the series. I do wish Maura had played a bigger role in this book as she was relegated to more of a minor character, which I didn't love at all, and to be honest, although I enjoyed the book, it's not a favorite in the series because Angela played such a prominent role as MC. Gerritsen is a master storyteller though and the plot threads, of which there were several, all come together brilliantly and I was surprised on more than one occasion. An exciting addition to the Rizzoli & Isles series that was hard to put down. The focus is on relationships between family, friends, and neighbors, the good and the bad, and the downright deadly. There were heartwarming moments as well as chilling ones. A satisfying read.

I thought I had things figured out but this really delivered a twisty ending, though I at least was right on the who. It was a nice change of pace to learn more about Angela as she and Jane haven’t always had the best of relationships. Angela’s instincts served her well, even though it got her into some serious trouble but also helped save her. Maura Isles had a limited role here but she did play a significant part in solving the mystery. It was great to see this series return after the long hiatus and I highly enjoyed this unusual case that, in the end, needed Angela’s help to solve. And besides, Jane is far too busy immersed in her latest case, the murder of a recently widowed ICU nurse in her early fifties, bludgeoned to death in her own home. Who would want to hurt a woman who seemingly lived a quiet ordinary life in the suburbs, and appeared to have no enemies? Dr. Tess Gerritsen was born in San Diego, and educated at the Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco. She enjoys fiddling and gardening at her home in New England, and is married to Dr. Jacob Gerritsen, M.D. ,who specializes in Geriatric Medicine. Together they have two children, both sons. About Tess Gerritsen The nail-biting new thriller from Sunday Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen. Have you met Rizzoli & Isles yet? Combining real world knowledge with fully fleshed out character and thoughtful story lines is the hallmark of a master of thrill, and Tess Gerritsen possesses all these qualities, with the momentous addition of her professional training and experience and dedication to realism and research.

All in all an entertaining mystery that I definitely recommend to anyone who is a fan of police procedurals or mysteries! Something I’ve always loved about the Rizzoli & Isles books is how all of the puzzle pieces end up fitting together, even when some of them originally look like they belong in separate pictures. This was the case here as well.

Gerritsen walks that high wire between humour and suspense without ever falling off as she plays a great game of bait and switch with her readers. Linwood Barclay A hit-and-run driver injures young Amy Antrim in downtown Boston, and Sofia Suarez, a middle-aged critical care nurse, is bludgeoned to death. Amy’s father, a doctor, had worked with Sofia, but otherwise the two events appear unconnected. Boston PD Homicide detectives Jane Rizzoli and her partner, Barry Frost, investigate the murder, and medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles dissects poor Sofia’s corpse for clues. And a teenage girl goes missing for the fourth time. Will she return on her own, or has something horrible happened to her? As Jane tries to work, she's pestered by her mom, Angela, the neighborhood snoop. Angela knows everybody’s business and is friends with most of her neighbors. Her mantra is, “if you see something, say something,” and she sees a new couple that has moved in close by, pulled the shades down, even installed bars on the windows. She wants her daughter to investigate, but Jane is busy dealing with real crime. Yet something fishy is going on over there, perhaps a woman being held captive and abused. The characters are certainly colorful. Isles escapes her daily view of death by playing piano and doing it to perfection. A colleague is surprised that she “chose cadavers over Chopin.” Jane is miffed that her good friend Maura had never mentioned her musical pastime, but music “was her safe space, where death did not intrude.” Meanwhile, a self-proclaimed former SEAL pumps iron in his front window, the better to impress the women. Angela gossips with her Scrabble friends and mildly resents the snotty wordsmith who has a master’s in English. For her part, Angela has “a life degree in motherhood.” She knows that the way to get men to help her is to offer them zucchini bread, and she knows how to tactfully fend off a neighbor’s unwelcome advances. Gerritsen combines her knowledge of medicine and police procedure with an intricate plot, clever twists, and strong women. The murder of Sofia Suarez is both gruesome and seemingly senseless. Why would anyone target a respected nurse who was well-liked by her friends and her neighbours? As Detective Jane Rizzoli and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles investigate the baffling case, they discover that Sofia was guarding a dangerous secret -- a secret that may have led the killer straight to her door. I’m a fan of the narrator and she was particularly great at capturing the spirit of Angela Rizzoli who had the biggest voice in this story. The scenes with Jane and Angela were the most fun and Eby nailed the dynamics. I’m so glad I opted to listen as she made these scenes special. Another great addition to the Rizzoli & Isles series. Of which I’ve been a devoted follower from the beginning! I’ve read all of Tess Gerritsen’s books. Series and stand-alones. Bottom line…if Tess Gerritsen writes it I’ll be reading it!🙋🏻‍♀️

The case: ICU nurse, Sofia Suarez, has been bludgeoned to death. Why would anyone target a respected nurse well-liked by her friends and neighbors? Sofia was guarding a dangerous secret — a secret that may have led the killer straight to her. The killer will do anything it takes to keep their secret safe. I’d like to thank Netgalley, Random House UK – Transworld Publishers, Bantam Press, and Tess Gerritsen for the e-ARC. You need to #ListentoMe and read Tess Gerritsen's new thriller. It's fiendishly well-plotted. You won't work it out until the very end - guaranteed. I enjoyed every single line! Lesley Kara Dr. Tess Gerritsen is one of the premier authors in the medical and crime thriller genres. It was something her mother taught her long ago: In the morning you offer your guest coffee, in the afternoon you offer tea." Another thread involves Angela Rizzoli, Jane's mother, concerned about mysterious things happening on her street, The last thread involves Amy Antrim, and a mysterious man who seems to be stalking her. How these threads tie together makes for an absorbing mystery, which Jane solves with the help of Maura Isles, Medical Examiner for Boston PD, Jane's partner, Barry Frost, and of course, Jane's mother, Angela.
