About this deal

Find your family: Nope, this isn’t a sneaky plug for Ancestry, I’m talking about your preferred fragrance fam. Yup, most scent ‘families’ are characterised by an overall accord they share. This could be anything from woody to floral and aromatic to sweet, find your fave and it’ll help narrow down your search. For example, if you prefer a light, fresh fragrance, it could be worth opting for a citrus or floral family... A perfect example would be Jo Malone London's Lime Basil & Mandarin Cologne which has a fresh and zesty scent of limes and juicy mandarin. FYI: We updated this article in June 2023 to give you the most up-to-date info on vanilla perfumes, including two tried-and-tested formulas going viral on TikTok, the one our entire office couldn’t stop sniffing, and how to choose the best vanilla perfume yourself. Some like it sweet, some like floral, some like it warm, and some like it fresh. The first steps to choosing the best cheap perfume for you are to identify your personal taste and know what notes work on your body chemistry. Think about a scent's intensity If you prefer something a bit sweeter, take a cue from Rihanna and try one of her favourite scents - Kilian's Love Don't Be Shy Eau de Parfum. Loaded up with sweet floral top notes of orange blossom and neroli, combined with and a base of creamy musk, vanilla and caramel. Yum, right? If you love roses and fresh-cut flowers, go for a rose perfume and make yourself happy. Love the smell of grass and live for hikes and camping? Look for a scent that’s labeled “earthy.” If your dream is to roll around a field of daisies, then the floral fragrance family is for you. Whether you think you like citrus fragrances, fruity perfumes, or warm vanilla scents, don’t worry about being too obvious—just get one and try it. Decide how intense you want it

Cosmopolitan 20 Best Perfumes and Fragrances for Women - Cosmopolitan

Do you want a perfume that smells strictly of vanilla or has a faint whisper of sweetness from a vanilla note? If the vanilla notes in your perfume are in the foundation with eight other base notes, it likely won’t have that strong of a vanilla scent. But on the other hand, if you want to really smell the vanilla, look for a perfume with only a few other notes throughout, one that only includes one or two other base notes, or that includes vanilla in the middle or opening. You can also look for a vanilla perfume that combines a few types of vanilla, like vanilla orchid or vanilla bourbon. Decide on the type But although this is an eau de parfum (which usually means it is denser and has a stronger scent profile, meaning it’ll last longer), this perfume is fairly weak, which I actually prefer for days when I just want a slight waft of my fragrance. But if you like a stronger scent, dab a little Vaseline or Aquaphor on your wrists before spritzing this on to give the perfume something to grip onto and increase the longevity a lil bit. If you're even remotely into fragrance, then you've probably heard of Le Labo or smelled one of their trendy perfumes on someone before. The first time I ever smelled a Le Labo perfume (hi, the famous woodsy scent called Santal 33 that's on every " best perfumes" list), it was love at first sniff. But let me tell you: Santal 33 is only one of many phenomenal perfumes on Le Labo's roster. The brand has a tonne of unique scents, including gourmand vanilla perfumes, earthy fragrances, and floral scents that all are all worth trying, IMO. In a world where vanilla perfumes, rose fragrances, and the likes of Santal 33 reign supreme, patchouli perfumes are severely slept on, if you ask me. And I’ll be honest: they weren’t really my thing either (I pretty much always want to smell sweet and edible), until I realized that patchouli, which generally smells earthy and musky, doesn’t have to exist on its own as a one-note scent. Once I realized that some of the best perfumes contain patchouli, I learned that patchouli perfumes aren’t just woodsy and heavy—they can also be sweet, floral, and fresh, too. Now, I’ll wax poetic about the versatile powers of patchouli until the end of time. Perfumes fall into two categories: eau de parfum (EDP) or eau de toilette (EDT). An EDP contains more fragrance oil than an EDT, meaning the EDP will last longer on the skin. This makes sense why the oilier your skin, the more intense a scent will be, and the less you will need. If you want something less fragrant, opt for a body mist. A body mist is the lightest form of fragrance and is typically cheaper. Start small

Perfume shopping can be a tad overwhelming, we see fragrance after fragrance hit the virtual shelves, all of which have dreamy ad campaigns (I'm looking at you, Jo Malone), cute bottles (hiii, Glossier) and most importantly, in-cred-ible scents. This should be obvious, but as someone who has always been lowkey embarrassed by their love of cutesy, teenage-y, sweet and fruity scents (i.e., ~gourmands~), I’ve forced myself to wear “grown-up” musks even when I really disliked them. So regardless of your tastes, own them and channel them into your fragrance.

Listen, perfumes can be confusing, but as soon as you’ve got the facts, you’ll be able to easily navigate them online. In general, fragrances fall into one of two categories: eau de parfum (EDP) or eau de toilette (EDT). EDPs, aka parfums, are made with a higher concentration of perfume oils, and EDTs, aka toilettes, are made with less. So because I’m obsessed with perfumes, I did the very hard work of going through all of my fragrances (all 89 of them—for real) to compile a full list of the absolute best vanilla perfumes I’ve ever tested. I found summer scents, cheap perfumes, new perfumes, and long-lasting fragrances that all have a vanilla note—and not all of them are sweet, tbh! Peep all of my faves here: I’m legit obsessed with Le Monde Gourmande, an affordable line of fragrances that includes this light and sweet vanilla perfume. It’s definitely decadent— hello, vanilla, brown sugar, and apricot—but the amber and jasmine help tone it down a bit from being too rich and heavy. I actually wear this in big crowds a lot without worrying it’ll give someone a headache.
