About this deal

Cover image for 75960609975700111 AMAZING FANTASY #1000 JOHN ROMITA JR. COVER, by Kurt Busiek & Marvel Various & Jim Cheung & John Romita Jr., in stores Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from marvel This weekend's D23 Expo event in Anaheim comes alongside the 60th anniversary of Amazing Fantasy #15, the first appearance of Spider-Man by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, which was published in August 1962. Which is also why Marvel Comics just published Amazing Fantasy #1000. And at D23, Marvel Comics will be giving away two exclusive-to-the-show editions of the extra-sized comic, featuring the work of Neil Gaiman, Steve McNiven, Dan Slott, Armando Iannucci and more. They will be given away at the Marvel Comics: Celebrating 60 Years of the Amazing Spider-Man panel, while supplies last.

With Great Power..." is Neil Gaiman's secret Spider-Fan origin, and it's well written. It's sweet. A little self-centered, I guess.Falcoe and Cho team up for a story that shows us why Spider-Man still goes after low-level street criminals, even when alien and cosmic threats are constantly showing themselves. A fantastic way to open the issue up. The next story by Dan Slott and Jim Cheung, presenting a Spider-Man that is still going at the age of sixty, and whilst he still fights the likes of supervillains, he gets gunned down by a burglar, just like his Uncle Ben. Stunningly detailed by Jim Cheung, it is horrific seeing Spider-Man shot in the gut, lying in a pool of his own blood. However, Slott – being no stranger to the character – turns a story of initial horror into one of hope, with doctors doing their best to save him, whilst the rest of New York pays their respect to their hero. This August, Marvel Comics will proudly celebrate the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man in a new landmark issue, AMAZING FANTASY #1000!

This year marks 60 years of one of comic books’ greatest icons: Spider-Man! In addition to an exciting relaunch of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, a stunning variant cover program, and more, Marvel Comics will also celebrate this milestone anniversary with a special issue honoring the comic that started it all, AMAZING FANTASY. Sinister 60th" is actually my favorite story here. Call me a softy, but when all those people lined up to see Spider-Man on his deathbed, that made me a little emotional. Over the past sixty (60!) years, Marvel has been telling us that everyone can "be Spider-Man". All it takes is the solemn vow to use one's abilities, natural or otherwise, for the greater good. As much as some readers may complain of his relationships stagnating, Peter Parker has grown with his audience over the past six decades into a deep and relatable hero known the world-over.The Daily Bugle begins showing people what they secretly want to believe one morning, and all hell breaks loose in NYC. While the story is an okay enough take on the whole "Fake News" shit, the highlight of this is Stegman’s pencils. His Superior Spider-Man art is still some of my favorite Spider-Man art to this day, so it's just nice seeing him draw the character again. His action scenes just always have so much energy to them. Emmy Award-winning creator behind Veep and Avenue 5 Armando Iannucci makes his Marvel Comics debut alongside Ryan Stegman in a story about a strange Spidey conspiracy! Arriving in August, AMAZING FANTASY #1000 will be a giant-sized one-shot brought together by some of the industry’s most acclaimed creators. The collection of stories will explores the past and future of Amazing Spider-Man storytelling in tales that leave a profound impact on the Spider-Man mythos and showcase why Spidey is one of the most beloved heroes in history. Am always open to reading book recommendations. Add me as a friend on Goodreads to share what we read with each other: www.goodreads.com/author/show/1955739... The fact that this is exactly the way Uncle Ben died is not lost on Peter Parker. As he fights for his life from a hospital bed, he says "Not some burglar with a gun...going out like Uncle Ben. Almost feels right."It is a mundane and rather realistic death for a superhero who regularly fought aliens, demons and mad scientists, but this is the point. Peter has always stood for the proverbial little guy, the kind of people who are all too often lost amid the chaos of a world-ending crossover event. Spider-Man never forgets his street-level roots, no matter how many Gods or monsters he fights.

story - Busiek/Dodsons - 6.5. That was a meh story. I love Dodsons, but they are much worse here, than in Marvel Knights... Busiek wrote a weird story, however it was a direct sequel to one of the stories of the Amazing Fantasy 15 and oh god thanks that I read it, because if not - I would get almost no satisfaction from this story. So, 6.5 is fine here, I think. This weird glider-woman is a dumb idea, but I love the connection and seeing story being completed after 60 years - is a great feeling. Unlike Action Comics and Detective Comics, there have never been a thousand issues of Amazing Fantasy, a book that was cancelled, revived and cancelled again. The numbering of this issue is for marketing purposes and as a way of celebrating the web-slinger's 60th anniversary. Like these particularly-numbered issues, Amazing Fantasy #1000 features a series of short stories by various writers and artists, celebrating Spider-Man in their own way. Lowe also broke down each of the eight stories featured in the one-shot, including behind-the-scenes tidbits on the issue’s extraordinary talent. So, overall, this is a good book. Not all stories are great, some of them are boring or just odd here. They feel really unnecessary and kinda ruin the book. But on the other hand we have some masterpieces, which is just so rare in the modern comics.
