In September this year, Ian Macleod Distillers revived Jamaican rum brand Langs with the launch of a banana-flavoured expression in the UK. The brand’s first line extensions, Langs Mango and Ginger Rum and Langs Pineapple Rum, are both bottled at 37.5% ABV. Langs is a flavoured rum sourced from Jamaica and infused with 100% natural banana flavour in Scotland. Our rum is a blend of unaged and aged Jamaican rums from ex-bourbon American white oak casks. All ingredients are natural. No artificial flavours, oils or essences are used in the making of Langs Rum. The banana variant is the first in a new range of flavoured rums from the Langs brand, which will be released in the coming months. Ian Macleod has planned a phased roll out for the brand in the UK on-trade. Just as in whisky, ageing mellows and improves the taste of freshly distilled rum. While the rum matures in oak barrels, natural tannins in the wood impart a golden tint that yields to a rich brown cast after several years.Combining a flavourful core of aged rum from Barbados with hibiscus, orange blossom, and honeybush, Suncamino boasts layers of silky sweet caramel and floral fruits – plus the distinct character of the honeybush make this a unique little treat. Langs Rum is a blend of Molasses-rich, pot and column distilled Jamaican rums from ex-bourbon American white oak casks. Our rum benefits from the best of both countries; the finest rum from Jamaica infused with natural banana flavour in Scotland. It’s a special relationship that’s created liquid sunshine in a bottle.” Free drinks for visitors

Imported from Jamaica, home of earthy aromatic rum ‘funk’, our premium quality, smooth drinking rum is then infused with natural fruit flavours to embody the carnival spirit. Langs Jamaican Rum was originally imported in 1861 when it was brought to Glasgow from the Caribbean. The original recipe for Lang Bros Banana Rum was showcased at the Edinburgh international Exhibition in 1886. Lotsof water has flowed down the Clyde since the Lang Brothers launched Glasgow’s original banana rum in the 1860s. Much rum has flowed too. People loved the Langs blend of exotic ingredients and big flavour. A tropical antidote to the traditional grind, Langs was a popular bar call. Ian Macleod Distillers has expanded its Langs Rum range with the launch of two new expressions: Mango and Ginger, and Pineapple. Langs Mango and Ginger and Langs Pineapple join the banana-flavoured bottling in the rum range

To celebrate its return this month, the banana flavoured rum is proving once more that you don’t need to make the 10,000-mile round-trip to Jamaica to enjoy the spirit of the Caribbean, with Camusdarach beach in Scotland an unexpected setting for its tropical launch. A commonplace tipple of the ’20s, pineapple gin fell off the map and was lost to time for a while. That Boutique-y Gin Company has rescued it from that fate and given it a 21st century twist! Whole pineapples are roasted on a spit with Demerara sugar until they’re gloriously caramelised, and they’re then combined with a particularly bold gin, helping to cut through the sweet pineapple. Barbara Turing, innovation manager at Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “The rum boom continues to grow and is showing no signs of slowing down. Consumers are increasingly seeing rum as a category in which they can find exciting and sophisticated drinking experiences, so we felt this is the right time to revive a brand that fits perfectly with these trends. Feel like you’re truly on the beach with some tropical garnishes. Skewer a slice of pineapple, orange and a maraschino cherry with a mini parasol and place against the glass’ rim.

Langs Mango & Ginger is a spicy-sweet sunburst of ripe, velvety mango, with ginger heat building in a long smooth spiced finish. If you prefer a blended drink, add your ingredients to a blender along with about half a cup of ice. Blend on high until smooth, then serve in the glass of your choice. Squeeze lime wedges into a highball glass. Add ingredients then fill with cubed ice. Stir well then top with soda. Aliquam id leo efficitur, ullamcorper ipsum vel, tincidunt mauris. Now, Ian Macleod Distillers has revived the Langs brand with its own take on the banana bottling. The new expression is a blend of unaged and ex-Bourbon American white oak cask aged Jamaican rums. It has been distilled in both pot and column stills and infused with natural fruit flavour.

Our rum benefits from the best of both countries; the finest rum from Jamaica infused with natural banana flavour in Scotland. The Lang Brothers brand joined Ian Macleod Distillers’ portfolio in 2003 as part of the firm’s acquisition of Highland whisky distillery Glengoyne from Macallan owner Edrington. According to Ian Macleod, Langs Rum was no longer being sold by Edrington by that point. The pineapple-flavoured bottling is said to have hints of coconut, caramel and lime, and a nose of pineapple, coconut, and raisin ice cream. The palate delivers pineapple, caramel and cinnamon, followed by a finish of fruits and spiced oak. It is suggested to be consumed neat, over ice, or mixed with cranberry juice.
