About this deal

The Salomon Supercross GTX W is an affordable all terrain running shoe aimed at the mid level runner, less technical than say the Speedcross yet designed for comfort and grip. The Salomon S/LAB Ultra 3 trail running shoe provides a comfort level so high you'll think you're wearing a road running shoe. With a highly breathable, lightweight upper and a midsole made of the most durable foam, you'll experience comfy cushioning and protection for long-distance use. Another thing you may want to consider is that they are best used one or less per week so I wouldn't have them as you're daily running shoe. The Salomon Supercross 3 GTX is a versatile running shoe that can take you from the town to the trail. If you like to mix up your running, this lightweight shoe is just as at home in your local park as it is on a rugged off-road route. With their high heel counter and a large 10mm drop, we don't feel these shoes are the most stable, especially when bombing downhill, as we are here in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. That didn't stop us from putting them to the test, but we think they could do with a little bit less under the heel.

Salomon Supercross 3 GTX Trail Running Shoe REVIEW - WalkJogRun

A robust and aggressive grip makes it easy to dig into dirt safely whilst providing all the flexibility needed for ground feel and plenty of push-ups. Trail running needs a secure shoe that isn't slippy or sloppy, and the Supercross 3 provides an incredibly personalized fit with the use of SensiFit™ technology and a snug heel fit. The flexible construction is exactly the type of composition you want in trail shoes; your feet will move in directions based on the terrain you encounter. The toe does have an extra layer of rubber for protection whilst t he ripstop durable mesh tongue prevents debris and small stones from entering the shoe. Breathability could be an issue in warmer months but so far I’ve had no issues. The Salomon Supercross are extremely comfy. They are a dream to run in. This is largely down to the cushion of the Ortholite insole. The Supercross 3 GTX has a Contragrip rubber outsole, giving you maximum traction on mixed terrain. The aggressive chevron lug pattern offers multi-directional grip, which is perfect for softer ground and surfaces with loose dirt. Salamon released their first snowboard in 1997, and since then have firmly cemented their highly respected place in the snowboarding industry, just as they have done for the last 50 years with alpine skiing, nordic skiing, hiking, trail running, and everything else associated with mountain life. Not only are they the most comfortable running shoe I’ve ever worn, they are lightweight, look great and their insane traction will keep you upright on running trails all winter long. The fabric is also ideal for allowing the foot to move more freely and adjust according to the ground you are on. In addition, Salomon class this as a regular cushioned shoe, so although it is comfortable, it may not provide you with the extreme comfort to keep off soreness and fatigue from multi-day trips.

Using trademarked SensiFit technology makes sure the Supercross 3 wraps like a glove around your feet, adjusting as if modeled for your feet alone. This is essential for trail running as fast feet need snug shoes.

However, if you're looking for something with a more bare, minimalistic ground feel, I'd recommend trying out the Merrell Trail Glove 6. This Trail Glove version has a new design that imitates the shape of the bare human foot, ensuring it stays in a natural position to the ground. Salomon always boasts a fabulous outsole, it grips like teeth to the ground and is great on both wet and dry ground. The lugs with deep penetration offer superb grip on soft surfaces such as mud or loose dirt. The Salomon Supercross is designed as an off roader performing best on wild terrain. And in the wild, grip is king. Lets talk about this shoe’s lugs (What are lugs?? Lugs are simply the tread on the bottom of a shoe). You can see the massive difference between the height of the foam underfoot in the forefoot and the heel. The heel is very protective, while the forefoot is rather sensitive. You can also see that while there are a lot of overlays on the upper, the crease point on the forefoot is left exposed to abrasion and early tearing. It's a more comfortable ride for your foot which gives you that better feeling with every stride, especially on trail runs that are harsher on your feet.

Although the Salomon shoe provides plenty of support and grip for trail runs, they are not mountaineering boots. With foot protection classed as light, what they lose in grip and ankle stability, they make up for with a lightweight and flexible feel, allowing you to move swiftly on the run. The Supercross 3 uses Contagrip TD, built for maximum traction on varied terrain and durable enough to withstand the most challenging trails. Built with large lugs, the Speedcross delivers optimum grip to keep you grounded.

The foot protection is light so this is not a shoe that I would recommend for heavier trails. It is the ideal shoe for softer terrain that doesn't have too much debris hanging about. How can this be a running shoe if it's not comfortable? Don't worry; this Salomon trail running shoe provides superior comfort with an Ortholite insole, which is super comfortable, hygienic, and allows for fresher feet for longer. However, this Ortholite insole can be thinner than EVA foam midsoles, potentially decreasing the comfort for super long hikes. The ripstop fabric is perfect for trail shoes as it reinforces that ripping, abrasion, and tearing resistance.
