About this deal

This novel takes place over the space of a single day. It concerns five people: Tress, who is heavily pregnant, and her Finance Director husband Max; Max's best friend ER doctor Noah and his wife Anya who works at Max's firm; and Tress' neighbour Nancy, a sixty-six year old widow who has been a friend and substitute mother to Tress since she moved to Glasgow after a whirlwind courtship. At the end of the 24 hours all their lives will be completely different. Jess, the first Mrs. O’Flynn. Her heart’s set on somebody new, however will the last one night stand that she shared with Colm return to haunt her?

I’ve also released a non-fiction title, Because Mummy Said So, a collection of features I’ve written about all our family disasters, laughs and embarrassing moments over the years. I’m hoping my offspring don’t find out. Man, I was not expecting to feel so much when I started this book. This would make a fantastic book club selection. There is so much to discuss here. I found this book to be well written and well thought out. I also enjoyed the pacing. One Day With You" by Shari Low is an intense and emotional story that will definitely elicit a range of emotions from readers. The author does a great job of exploring the complexities of relationships and the impact of secrets and lies on those closest to us. The plot keeps readers on the edge of their seats, wondering what will happen next. I love it when an author can incite self-investigation and cause me to re-evaluate my beliefs on a subject. Sometimes, a novel confirms my beliefs and other times, such as this one, I can see the value in a different way of responding.

The Story of Our Secrets” is a stand alone novel that was released in the year 2021. Colm O’Flynn was loved by his close circle of friends and family, but his death came much too soon for everybody to make peace with their own past. I liked how Tress’s mother isn’t the stereotypical bitter/ emotionally unavailable mom. Tress grew up in a positive environment, and her trust in Max stems from her good heart.

The story takes place over the course of one day and is broken into two hour intervals and told from various POV and is absolutely heartbreaking and painful and there are several triggers but it is well written and does have a happy ending. On March 18, 2000 she got her first ;publishing deal at 3 pm. At 4 pm, she learned she was pregnant. So as much as I would like to say that the addictive writing and wonderful characters, plus emotionally tinged plotlines got me - they only did for the first half. Rest of the half was spent debating whether I should hurl myself out of this room and into a cave to cry and be frustrated for forever, or throw the book into outer space. I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Boldwood Books and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

Full of empathy and charm, the characters face real life, broken relationships, and emotions of happiness, sadness, tragedy, and betrayal —infused with love, friendship, and community. Also, becoming wiser on the other side and second chances. Another aspect I liked was the age gap between Tress and Max. It wasn’t highlighted or used for the plot. It was what it was. ( Tress is older than Max by 6-7 years). One Day with You - two fateful goodbyes, two unexpected hellos, and 24 hours that change everything. (Synopsis courtesy of Goodreads.) Nancy I couldn't sleep last night for thinking about seeing you again tonight. We've got so many years to make up for. Counting the hours. Love, Eddie.'

Max’s POV was well-done. I have no sympathy for him or Anya. However, the execution molded the character very well. It was impactful, more than Tress or Noah’s POV. This is one of the most emotional books I have read in a long time. I felt so terribly sad for the kindhearted Tress, who is about to give birth to her long awaited baby. And poor Noah, trying to stay strong for everyone but especially Tress while she is in labour and being an honest friend after the baby is born. I felt so much anger towards Max and Anya and their selfishness that destroyed lives. The Nancy storyline was fresh and funny. I was literally laughing out loud at her antics with Val. It was also nice to read about a late in life romance. I loved how this story has wonderfully fleshed out characters and how they acted like real people and the conclusion was very true to life as well. If you enjoy books that evoke many emotions, have lots of drama, and a bit of romance this is the book for you. All. The. Stars.

A captivating beautiful, and thought-provoking novel. Well-written, with a vital takeaway. Make the most of your life. Live for today, as we do not know what tomorrow may bring. Shari delivers a highly entertaining novel throughout and one that readers enjoyed reading, even the sections that had them sobbing. I’m beyond thrilled that three of my favourite people in publishing, the brilliant Caroline Ridding, Amanda Ridout and Nia Beynon, have founded Boldwood Books, and given my novels a home there. Four POV — We meet two couples: Tress and Max Walker and their friends Noah and Anya Clark. Their lives change forever in the span of a few hours. Whose heart will be broken by nightfall? It started like any other day in the picturesque village of Weirbridge. Beginning Feb 9th, 2023 @ 8-10 am.

I knew what to expect when I requested the book. I wasn’t looking for a fresh theme/ topic. I was only curious to see how the author executed it. The characters weren’t deep or layered. What you see is what you get. This actually helped the plot from being overcomplicated or intense. I prefer books with contained emotions, so this worked for me. (The emotional quotient will vary for each reader).
