The life-affirming and unforgettable new novel from the author of Lost for Words'I read this book in one sitting, it made me smile and made me wipe a tear from my eye too' ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐'This book had me sitting up into the small hours. I like the concept of the book, as book lovers we already know the joy of reading and the idea of prescribing books as a form of medicine or a remedy is a good one. To lose yourself in a book is a marvellous thing especially at a time such as Covid. My only negative is that it is perhaps a bit repetitive with the letters and the book lists as my enjoyment lies in the characters that you follow through. At times there is humour although not as much as in the last book which is understandable given the serious nature of the times. It’s very moving and poignant with some heartbreak and it’s thought provoking too. Along the journey there is kindness and thoughtfulness, there are situations that arise that overcome preconceptions and finding commonality along with plenty of honesty. The characters start with being names on paper and grow to be individuals with their strengths and weaknesses. Their hopes and insecurities. The best part? We are not told of these. We are shown these. The character growth kept me intrigued throughout as I wanted to know what happens next to a particular character and what choices would the character go on to make.

Rosemary and George have been married for fifty years. Now their time is running out. They have decided to set out on their last journey together, without ever leaving the bench at the bottom of their garden in Whitby. All they need is someone who shares their love of books. The Lost Bookshop is a heartwarming, charming, and magical book. Evie Woods writes with such ease and passion that the reader finds it difficult to put the book down until it is completed.Suddenly it’s clear to Loveday that she and her team can do something useful in a crisis. They can recommend books to help with the situations their customers find themselves in: fear, boredom, loneliness, the desire for laughter and escape. The lives of these three characters intertwine in a magical way. Equal parts heartbreaking and hopeful, this novel is beautifully written and captures the wonder and awe that a story can bring to its reader. This is a novel for lovers of books. So many great ones, along with their authors, are mentioned throughout. Its premise proves that books can take us anywhere our imaginations conjure. Yes, even to a lost bookshop that appears to a special few. Chosen ones or believers?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and well developed. The stories were compelling and woven together very well. Each reader will discover life as it was during that time, and the hope that carries us forward. The next steps. The next connections. "It’s the state of mind and heart of the person reading it that will make the book grow into something greater than the words printed in it." The novel encourages us to remember that sometimes, to move forward, there are goodbyes, and many are goodbyes that we never want to say. But as we say those goodbyes, we carry the legacy of those we loved so dearly with us. Books refresh our spirits; we carry the words we read forward in our thoughts, hearts, and actions. Stephanie’s stories are thoughtful and warm, written with much humour, and most importantly care. I’d recommend them to anyone, and especially those recovering from a broken heart’ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ The thing about books,’ she said, ‘is that they help you to imagine a life bigger and better than you could ever imagine.’ They definitely do and this book shows you the larger than life side of reading. We get to indulge, imagine and transcend the ordinary while passing into extraordinary realms for ‘books are like portals.’

Overall, this is a unique and mesmerizing love story filled with heartbreak, romance, mystery, magic, hope and courage. I loved all the literary references and all the books within the book were just perfection. This kind of story reminds me why I love reading!💜💜💜💜💜 Lost is not a hopeless place to be. It is a place of patience, of waiting. Lost does not mean gone forever. Lost is a bridge between worlds, where the pain of our past can be transformed into power…A story handed down through memory, lives that reveal themselves to you without words, books that breathe knowledge softly in your ear…nostalgia rescued and reborn into a new life…’ One timeline is told from the point of view of Opaline starting in the 1921 in which she flees London when her abusive brother tries to force her to marry a man she has not even met because the family needs money. She uses her love and knowledge for books to get a job at the "Shakespeare and Company" bookshop. Again Opaline is forced to run! Unfortunately, she lived during the horrific times when women were considered the property of family or husband. Martha is special, too. In a different way. She has a gift of reading people’s emotions, finding out their secrets. But nobody liked her trespassing their private moments. So she ‘learned to hide these thoughts’ and ‘hid them so well’ she forgot where she put them. She is in an abusive broken marriage. Her self-esteem is shot. Repercussions arise from such emotional and physical battering. Initially she feels she is undeserving of good things and this self-depreciation follows her like a shadow. But she continues to hope for better until she realises this makes her miserable. She must choose between hope and happiness. But love is on her doorstep. Can she embrace it?

Yes, this novel is set during the first few months of the Covid pandemic, but don't let that stop you from reading it, especially if you enjoyed the first in the series as much as I did. Found in a Bookshop is an ode to readers everywhere, and I loved all of the book references and how books brought people together even with social distancing in place. With no in-person sales allowed, Loveday, and employee, Kelly, must figure out how to keep their beloved bookshop afloat so they start a "book prescription service!" Feeling lonely? Read this and this. Feeling scared? Read that and that. As requests begin to pour in, what follows is a lovely and heartwarming story full of love, empathy, and the best of humanity. I have read "Lost for Words" several times and loved it. The poignancy of characters and story was phenomenal and it will forever be one of my favourite books. What a lovely book - so assured and gentle, full of compassion and replete with astute observations of human nature and behaviour' Carys Bray
