About this deal

Our E-commerce Editor, Molly Cleary, is well and truly on team KitchenAid. ‘We test a lot of kitchen appliances at our dedicated facility, which is thankfully kitted out with a few KitchenAid Artisans. These stand mixers are capable of every task, from kneading to whipping up egg whites.’

Capacity: like batch baking for cake sales? You’ll need a larger bowl capacity and perhaps a more powerful mechanism that will plough through larger volumes of mixture. Buy the biggest machine you can afford that will fit in your kitchen.verifyErrors }}{{ message }}{{ /verifyErrors }}{{ Please do not leave a damaging review without giving us the opportunity to rectify any issues you may have. These are the mixers they have in the Bake Off tent, and you can see why - they are just so gorgeous. From the matte shades to the colour-of-the-year editions (especially last year!), these mixers are the ultimate icon to have on your countertop.' Whether you’re a fan of The Great British Bake Off , a seasoned baker or you just fancy flexing your baking muscles at home, there’s simply no two ways about it – you need a stand mixer. The best stand mixers help you to be a better cook: they take the hard work out of mixing cakes and batter, and even knead bread dough so you don’t have to.

Our Editor-in-Chief Heather Young summoned it up well when she said 'I love my Kenwood kMix, but I store it away when not in use. If it was out on my countertop I'd probably have gone for the Kitchenaid.'Set a mixing duration on the Bakery Boss integrated timer and the mixer automatically stops at the desired time. This feature ensures you never over whip again. This heavy duty mixer will help make you a pro in the kitchen. The Bakery Boss replicates the same planetary mixing action used in commercial bakeries and patisseries. It has 360 degrees full bowl coverage and a double sided scraper that cuts mixing time down by 60%. It has everything you need to create professional results. The Kenwood kMix has many modern design flourishes, including a varispeed 1,000 watt motor, a large five-litre mixing bowl and a big speed control knob. The kMix stands taller than the KitchenAid and is only slightly less sturdy while the polished stainless steel mixing bowl is light in the hand and pretty to look at. The Chef Patissier XL is an all-in-one baking machine. Not only does it do everything a traditional stand mixers does – and does it well – but it also has in-bowl weighing and warming. This means you can weigh, mix and prove your bread dough all from one bowl. It’s also ideal for melting chocolate and butter, or even for making Swiss meringue.

On the surface, the Artisan seems like an expensive jump from the classic stand mixer. However, once you consider the additional space, power, attachments and bowl – the price hike doesn’t seem quite so outrageous. Alongside some classic accessories including a wire balloon whisk, flat beater and dough hook, the Titanium Chef Baker also comes with digital, built-in weighing scales. While integrated scales might seem like an unnecessary luxury, having the ability to weigh directly into your mixing bowl is a huge benefit, not only saving on time but also on washing up. The scales also double as a timer, which is ideal if you’re keen to keep mixing and kneading times as precise as possible. The 300-watt Artisan is available in 13 tantalising colours – including a very tasty honey colour – and comes with a 4.8-litre stainless steel bowl, a smaller 3-litre stainless steel bowl without a handle for smaller batches or extra ingredients for the same recipe, a balloon whisk, dough hook, flat beater and a brilliant Flex Edge beater with a rubber edge for scraping wayward ingredients off the side of the bowl. If you’re a well-seasoned baker, or at least aspire to be, the Artisan’s four sturdy attachments and additional mixing bowl will see you through the toughest of bakes.

What to look for in a stand mixer?

Ease of use and cleaning: Modern stand mixers can offer sophisticated features but being easy to use is incredibly important. Washing your stand mixer’s attachments by hand can also be a pain, so we looked for dishwasher-safe accessories to make cleaning less of a headache. Google sets the cookie for advertising purposes; to limit the number of times the user sees an ad, to unwanted mute ads, and to measure the effectiveness of ads. You’ll get a similar selection with the Kenwood kMix. While Millie found that the 5-litre glass mixing bowl was a little on the heavy side, she appreciated the fact that the bowl came with markings to make liquid measurements even easier. Alongside this, the box was also full of a flat beater, wire whisk, dough hook, and even a spatula. At a basic level, you should look for a stand mixer with a decent number of speed settings and the option for additional attachments. But if you want to improve or expand your cooking skills, there are other features worth considering. Nevertheless, what really makes this mixer stand head and shoulders above every other model on the planet is the inclusion of a computer-controlled interface, built-in scales and the ability to warm ingredients – in the bowl! The interface has six presets, including dough proving, chocolate melting, egg white whisking and dough kneading. However, most avid bakers will love the scale and bowl-heating functions most. To use the scales, you simply clamp the mixing bowl into position and select the scale function, change the units to your preference and pour in the ingredients.
