There’s much less of an improvement in the GPU, its 3DMark Wild Life score of 1213 representing a less than 10% increase over the last generation. As such, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is miles behind performance-led Xiaomi models such as the Poco X3 Pro and Poco F3.

While Redmi could be accused of treading water with the Note 11 Pro 5G, it’s really on the brand’s budget rivals to catch up. It excels in display tech, with the 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED unlikely to be significantly bettered at this price. The phone can capture good daylight images, a cut above some at the price. It also has a notably fairly effective night mode that dramatically improves low-light images —it’s a proper computational mode, where some at the price have a limited effect.There are mitigating factors, of course. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G’s screen is lovely, the speakers are good. You can simply get phones much better suited to the job of playing games if that is your top priority. The Snapdragon 695 is not, and video capture quality is the most significant casualty of this price-cutting status —we’ll cover that in the camera section of this review.

The biggest issue here is the camera - despite the 108MP sensor looking powerful on paper, it doesn’t return great results in the field. This is a solid handset, but it stands little chance of becoming one of the best phones of 2022. The Redmi Note 11 Pro gains 5G but has a lower-grade processor, all things considered, and a significantly weaker camera array. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G can still play demanding games well enough, though. But Fortnite is limited to basic graphics settings at 30fps, and titles that actually let you use settings outside the capability of your phone – ARK: Survival Evolved, for example –will chug if you make the visuals look too nice.The only distraction is the punch-hole camera in the center of the screen up at the top, which mostly stays out of the way. As we've said, the bezels are nice and slim, with the bottom chin the only real giveaway that this isn't a screen on a more expensive mid-range or even flagship smartphone. It also has an IR blaster. These are rare outside phones from Chinese brands, probably because no one in Europe or the US uses the feature. It lets the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G function as a universal remote, with the help of the Mi Remote app. Like many expensive smartphones, the Redmi Note 11 Pro combines 9 pixels of its 108 MP sensor into one pixel. The result is pictures that are supposed to be better in quality than a sensor with native 12 MP, according to the manufacturer. This impression cannot be confirmed directly in reality, but the photos of the main camera still make a good impression. With sufficient light, they are crisp and look convincing with rich, but not too gaudy colours. Plus, the Pro device has a slightly large display at 6.67 inches, whist the non-pro stands at 6.43 inches.
