And it's with this in mind that makes the Mission: Impossible series so entertaining, watching a talented, astute and otherwise sensible individual afflicted by years of sacrifice, conscious of the impact his choices have had on his personal life, as well as the world around him. Obviously that means the extras are the same, but once you get past all these disappointments, you find it's not such a bad selection to revisit, with over half a dozen Featurettes, some of them quite hefty, including a reflection on the larger TV series franchise before the films, the stunts, the characters and story, and Cruise's import. The extras package is comprehensive, spilling out onto a dedicated extras disc, and rounding out one of the best releases of 2018. But on a more important note, this follow-up is, at once, the best entry in the entire series, defying all expectations for a sequel, and the perfect remedy to many contemporaryactionflicks, favoring white-knuckle practical visuals over a dependency on CGI effects.Thankfully the original Blu-ray release of Rogue Nation already had one, and it's that same, excellent track that's ported over here.

The set has seen staggering new 4K remasters for the first film and the second film, and both those and the third film enjoy a lossless audio track upgrade. Enter: Fallout, which is also afforded a full High Definition 3D immersive audio track in the form of Atmos, and goes big, bold and expansive to provide the most involving experience of all of the features, and one the best audio experiences on a home format release not just in 2018 but arguably of all time. With dialogue remaining clearly defined across the frontal array, rising above the maelstrom, the effects coverage is at times breathtaking, strapping you to the side of a plane during takeoff, or submerging you underwater with nothing but the muffled sound of air bubbles and the increasingly rapid pound of a heartbeat to engulf you. With a thumping bass underscore to the whole piece this is a thoroughly immersive offering that excels from start to finish. Mission: Impossible comes to the UK as part of a 5-film franchise box set released by Paramount just in time for the upcoming Mission: Impossible - Fallout.
