About this deal

In 1842, the spirit ration was reduced to one gill or four ounces. In 1862, during the Civil War, the U.S. Navy abolished the daily spirit ration. The Confederate Navy, however, continued the tradition; in large part because many British sailors served in the Confederate Navy during the Civil War.

Pussers Rum Gunpowder Proof is bottled at a “Gunpowder Proof” of 54.5% ABV and is theonly commercially available rum blended inaccordance with Royal Navy Admiralty specifications.

Today’s Pusser’s is still produced in exact accordance with the Admiralty’s specifications for rum. Like the Pussers Rum Blue Label, Pussers Rum Gunpowder Proof is 3 year old 100% Guyanese rum. It is a blend of rums from Demerara Distillers Ltd with a heavy influence of rum produced in old wooden-sided pot stills.Originating in the 1700s, thesewooden pot stills produce flavours unmatched by modern metal column stills. Pusser’s Rum is rich and aromatic with a full bodied, versatile flavour and complex nose.Unlike most rums, Pussers Rum uses no flavouring agents. It is 100% natural. Pussers is said by connoisseurs to be more like a fine brandy than a rum, with a full, rich flavour and a smoothness which are unsurpassed. Bottled at 54.5% or “Gunpowder Proof” Read more about Gunpowder and Navy Strength spirits. The rum issue, one of the longest and unbroken traditions in seafaring history, ended as the last tot of Pusser’s was drunk on board Their Majesties Ships. “Round the world” in every ship of the Navy, glasses were raised in their final salute. “The Queen!” they said, and it’s no exaggeration to say that at that moment, many a strong man shed a tear at the passing of a tradition so old and fine, that was to be no more. On the palate, the rum is sweet, with distinct molasses and caramel flavors, followed by tropical fruit notes of melon and banana, along with flavors of raisin, a bit of prune and date and some dried orange peel. There are also some licorice/anise notes and a hint of coffee. The rum is very peppery. The higher alcohol is evident. Think of a liquid ginger-molasses cookie. To commemorate the 50 th Anniversary of this historic event, Pusser 's Rum LTD proudly introduces its Limited Edition 50 th Anniversary Rum, a special combination of aged Trinidad and Guyana rums blended at 54.5% ABV (109 Proof) and to the exact specification used by the Admiralty when it discontinued the issue. The Rum is a product of five stills, three in Guyana and two in Trinidad. The award-winning taste of this blend is heavily influenced by distillate from the vintage Greenheart double wooden pot still originally constructed at the Port Mourant Estate which was first placed in service in 1732.

For 21€ this one is a great bargain, unbeliveable cheap and good. If you like navy rums, I recommend this one. It’s sweeter on the palate, with more pronounced brown sugar rather than molasses notes. There are tropical fruit notes of melon and mango, along with prune, caramel and milk chocolate. The rum is smoother, with a more pronounced palate weight, and is less peppery than its brethren. The extended aging is evident in the more noticeable oak notes. To prepare for a face off, the iron men in their wooden ships found both revival and salvation in Pusser’s Rum, as well as companionship for downtime reverie. From the earliest days of the Royal Navy, these foolhardy brave hearts were issued a daily ration or “tot” of rum by the ship’s “Purser,” a word the sailors later coined as “Pusser”.Over to the rum. The one a review here is the one that’s just contains rum originating from Guyana. World's Best Column Still Rum 11 Years & Older, World Rum Awards (Pussers 50th BTD Anniversary Rum)

Pusser is an excellent rum—an authentic representation of traditional Royal Navy rum. If you are a rum enthusiast it definitely one to add to your collection. If you are new to rum, it’s an excellent place to start your exploration. Tobias called his rum Pusser’s Rum. The term pusser was Royal Navy slang for the purser aboard ship. It was the purser that was responsible for the rum store on the ship and for supervising doling out the daily rum tot.The Royal Canadian Navy followed suit on March 31, 1972, and the New Zealand Navy carried on the tradition until February 28, 1990. The Australian Navy had done away with the rum ration in 1921. I like this combination and the balance. The blend is still strong with 54.5%, but this abv was a very good choice. There is something musty in the nose, that I know from Demerara rums (molasses coated casks - MDXC). That's why it's pretty clear, this blend is a Guyana rum. Because of the raisins there is also a proportion of Enmore still rum in the blend.
