About this deal

I've just finished reading No Such Thing As Normal, it is aimed at those who struggle with mental health/those who are close to someone with mental health. She understands that ‘meditation/mindfulness’ - though a common suggestion from well-intentioned friends, is useless when you are really struggling. I’ve loved Bryony’s work for a long time, and this book was even more personal for me as I’ve recently discovered I have OCD.

I remember that the single most important factor for my wellbeing is not what other people think of me - it is what I think of myself. Those who, like her, have been dealing with mental illness for years will have heard all this many times before, so perhaps it is directed at people experiencing mental health problems for the first time or wanting to support someone suffering from them. I've listened to almost all of Bryony Gordon's books and have enjoyed following her mental health journey - a joy to listen to even when she is talking about the most difficult topics. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. This book is organised as a self help guide, the way it is written allows the reader to be able to pull out relevant bits to themselves and therefore hopefully be able to implement the tips in to their own lives.I wanted to know more about myself, so I asked colleagues from Romania what they thought about that feedback. It also presupposes that everyone's experience of mental illness has a coherent narrative structure, which I highly doubt.

A practical guide to mental health from leading mental health campaigner and bestselling author, Bryony Gordon.Today, I am sharing these insights from my current home in South Korea, knowing that I will start a new, very exciting chapter of my life in Mexico in a few months. I'd recommend this book to anyone because there are tips within it that are things that all of us sometimes forget to implement. I didn’t take a lot away from this, personally, and found myself losing focus as messaging became repetitive.

I’ve also stopped judging silly little things that seemed odd to me—like how the Chinese eat tomatoes with sugar because, to them, the cherry tomato is not a vegetable, but a fruit. I have read all of Bryony Gordon's books and I always find them a bit hit and miss - but I absolutely loved this book. This book is a very useful tool to reassure people who are mentally ill as well as those who know someone who is. Countries such as China or South Korea value harmony: let us all agree and collaborate, so it’s a win-win for everybody and no one has to lose.I also think it helps to break down any stigma surrounding mental illness that may still stand and it discusses the frustrations faced within the UK when accessing treatment. The overall writing style and framing of the subject did not engage me, and I probably wouldn’t have finished if I wasn’t reading for book club. We’re all shaped by the societies we grow up in (family, religion, and schooling system), and everything we know to be true comes from the environment that raised us.
