About this deal

The color balance in the TV’s Movie picture mode was mostly accurate. Delta E values averaged out to 4 (we typically look for these to dip below 3), with a high of 6.3. Measurements made with Portrait’s Calman color calibration software showed coverage of DCI-P3 (the color space used for mastering 4K Blu-rays and digital cinema releases) to be 97%, and BT.2020 to be 76.0%, both of which are excellent results. The TCL 6-Series is one of our favorite mid-range TV models – and has got a QLED upgrade too (Image credit: TCL) TCL features and formats The TCL Q7/Q750G QLED is a good lower mid-range model. Unfortunately, the Hisense U8/U8K is just a bit more expensive but much better overall, so it's better if you can stretch your budget a bit.

With TVs to suit a wide range of budgets, TCL is taking the UK market very seriously, rattling its sabre at well-established elites of the industry such as Samsung and LG. Engage in immersive entertainment with TCL 65 Inch TVs. Step into the heart of the action, whether it's cinematic storytelling or gaming excitement. Our TVs create an experience that's both captivating and engaging, enveloping you in content that feels larger than life. The subwoofer, meanwhile, eagerly underpins everything with far deeper bass than you get with most TVs, while only occasionally breaking down into mild distortions with the most extreme movie bass lines. As for cloud-based gaming, Google’s subscription-based Stadia service bit the dust in early 2023 after a three-year run, so there currently isn’t a gaming option with native support in the Google TV ecosystem. You can find the Nvidia Geforce Now app in the Google Play store, however, which presents a solid alternative. That's why we've brought together everything you need to know about the established Chinese electronics brand, including the most recent models we've tested, new and upcoming models and what you can expect to pay for them. The C845K’s impressive panel specifications are controlled by the third generation of TCL’s AI-informed AiPQ 3.0 processor, which includes an upscaling engine built on deep learning techniques. The best 65-inch TV we've tested is the Samsung QN65S90CAFXZA, commonly known as the S90C. It's an impressive TV that delivers fantastic picture quality and looks amazing with any content. Its QD-OLED panel provides a perfect contrast ratio, with no distracting blooming around bright objects, and its colors are incredibly vibrant and realistic. It gets extremely bright, so highlights in HDR stand out well, and with its fantastic reflection handling, it can easily overcome glare in a bright room. Unfortunately, it doesn't support Dolby Vision HDR; it instead supports HDR10+, a similar, albeit not as widespread, HDR format. The TCL TVs listed above all use either the Google TV or Android TV operating systems, but TCL also has options that run Roku TV OS, which is one of the best operating systems around when it comes to choice streaming service support and app provision.

There are of course a few key differences between the 2022 and 2023 models. The C835K can’t hit the same levels of brightness as its successor, with peak brightness of 1,500 nits compared to 2,000 nits. It also uses an older processor – AiPQ 2.0 – meaning HDR tone-mapping and general processing aren’t quite as impressive. There’s no 98in option either, and the speaker system is powered differently, with two 15W drivers and a single 30W driver in place of the pair of 25W drivers and single 20W driver on the C835K. The TCL QM8/QM850G QLED is one of the brightest TVs we've tested. It's a great choice overall, although the Hisense U8/U8K is a bit better and cheaper. Still, the TCL is the more vibrant TV of the two, so if you prioritize pop over accuracy or image processing, consider it. It looks accurate from almost all angles. Colors desaturate slightly when viewed from the far sides, but it’s minor and the sweet spot is otherwise wide enough. The TCL Q6/Q650G QLED is a decent budget model. It's interesting for gamers as it has 1080p @ 120Hz and 1440p @ 120Hz with resolution halving. Still, the Hisense U6/U6K is a bit better overall for the same price.

Every Note is a Work of Art

Replaced the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED, Hisense U8H, and Hisense A6H with the Sony X93L/X93CL, Hisense U8K, and Hisense A65K, respectively. Added a few Notable Mentions. Another tab in the Google TV home screen takes you to the Live TV portal. This presents over 800 channels of free-to-stream TV shows and movies from ad-supported apps. The channels are presented in a time-based program grid, and are grouped into themes such as News, Movies, Popular, Classic TV, Food… the list goes on.

The RS530K is available in either 32in or 40in and looks relatively similar in terms of specifications. It also has a 60Hz panel but the resolution is FHD (1,920 x 1,080) rather than UHD (3,840 x 2,160). Similarly, while there is support for the HDR10 and HLG formats, you don’t get the more advanced HDR10+ and Dolby Vision format support found with the RC630K. The Q7’s color performance is strong, with accurate and fairly wide colors. The above charts show the TV’s color levels in Movie mode with an SDR signal compared to Rec.709 broadcast standards, and with an HDR signal compared to DCI-P3 digital cinema standards. Whites are almost perfect with both signals, and SDR colors are almost spot-on. HDR colors skew very little and almost cover the entire color space, though greens, yellows, and reds fall a bit short. If you're a gamer, it's also worth considering the next-gen gaming features of your prospective new TV. Xbox Series X and PS5 gamers can gain a competitive advantage on certain games if their TV supports 4K 120Hz, while VRR support can result in a smoother gameplay experience. ALLM, meanwhile, simply ensures that you automatically get the best visual experience from both games and movies / TV shows. If you are a more casual gamer or not a gamer at all, you can pretty much disregard these features, and doing so will likely save you a lot of cash. How we test How we test TVs The various picture strengths we have talked about so far help to make the C845K an engagingly spectacular gaming TV too. Especially as the game mode delivers a decently low input lag measurement of 15.3ms with 60Hz content. This figure more than halves in 120Hz mode. The TCL 65P639K offers a great gaming experience thanks to its low input lag and fast response time. This means you can expect minimal lag and smooth gameplay, even when playing fast-paced games. It also supports a range of gaming features, including variable refresh rate and auto low latency mode, which further enhance the gaming experience. Overall, your choice of a TCL TV may come down to where you live. In the US there are plenty of TVs we’ve reviewed well, and TCL has built up an understanding of the market and what US viewers want from their televisions.

If that wasn’t enough to tempt you, it also delivers excellent picture quality. The key words we use to describe the Panasonic TX-65LZ2000B’s picture are balanced and authentic, with it delivering a wonderfully “as the director intended” look to all the movies we threw at it.

When I test TVs, my first step is to spend a few days using it for casual viewing for break-in and to assess the out-of-box picture presets. The next step is to select the most accurate-looking preset (typically labeled Movie or Cinema) and measure the white balance (grayscale), gamma, and color point accuracy using Portrait Displays’ Calman color calibration software. The resulting measurements provide Delta-E values (the margin of error between the test pattern source and what’s shown on-screen) for each category, and they allow for an assessment of the TV’s overall accuracy. The C3 retains the elegant design of the C2 but adds a new processor for even better visuals and more advanced audio upmixing. The webOS 23 operating system is simpler than last year's version too, and easier to navigate, and it brings a more sophisticated Game Optimiser menu complete with a dedicated sound sub-menu.
