About this deal

The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 1770 and remained active until closing at the beginning of the 20th Century The mighty craft beer producers BrewDog have also entered into the distilling arena via the BrewDog Distilling Co. and new products such as their Five Hundred Cuts Botanical Rum. Made with blood orange, ginger and finished in sherry casks, their Distiller’s Cut is a sweet and spicy rum inspired by the darker side of the Five Hundred Cuts story. Interestingly, it is distilled in the world’s first triple-bubble still after five days of fermentation and is then double pot distilled to create a white rum which is then infused with a range of spices and ingredients to create the botanical expression.

Banditti Club Glasgow Spiced Rum launched in 2018 and has since received a Gold Medal at the 2020 London Spirits Competition and 2021 Spirits Business Rum & Cachaca Masters. The Banditti Club Port Cask finish, which launched in early 2022, has recently been awarded a Gold Medal at The World Rum Awards.

Glasgow 1770 Golden Beer Cask Finish

Following on from Glasgow 1770’s limited edition specials we moved onto some rum. Produced in Madeira this is matured and spiced in Glasgow. 5. The Whiskyphiles tasting notes

Today, they are proud to continue that centuries-old tradition, bringing a taste of the Caribbean to this famous city, courtesy of their sublimely smooth and softly spiced rum. A harmonious fusion of far-off spices and homegrown endeavour, each gloriously golden drop is expertly blended and bottled right here in Scotland’s capital. Rum seemed the obvious next product for us after all the other spirits we have made and it now allows us to mature our Scotch in our own Rum casks and vice versa – but it needed its own identity”. Tony Reeman-Clark, Founder of Strathearn Distillery Garry and Shona Wilson are the people behind Rumburra Scotland Ltd in Fife and their small-batch golden aged rum brand Rumburra. This family business has been in operation since 2019 and their signature rum, Rumburra Orach, is a premium, craft, golden aged rum. It is small batched and handcrafted in Scotland at 42.3% abv.Naturally aged in oak casks and spiced with a selection of fresh fruit and exotic spices, Smoky Rogues is then finished in casks that previously held Glasgow 1770 Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky to add a deep and complex layer of smoky richness. The development of new, innovative and exciting spirits is at the heart of what we do,but don't just take our word for it. This limited-edition expression has already won Gold and been awarded the overall Style Winner in the non-age statement category for rums of agricoleand sugar cane juice origin at the 2022 World Rum Awards.

This is a single-cask limited-edition Banditti Club Glasgow Spiced Rum. It is aged and spiced like the rum above, but instead of cutting it down with water, this one has spent another 18 months in a cask previously used for Glasgow 1770 Peated Single Malt. The cask brings a layer of smokiness into the spirit. Smoky Rogues is bottled at a higher ABV of 52.2%. Only 390 delicious bottles were made available. The team say it is "deliciously smooth and creamy. Notes of vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and citrus, with a long and spicy finish."The inspiration behind the Sugar House Rum name derives from the original 17th century rum producers of Scotland – the Glasgow Sugar Houses. There were four sugar refineries in Glasgow in total that processed the imported sugar from the Caribbean and then produced rum from the molasses by-product of their sugar refining processes. Ross Bradley is the owner of the Spirit of Glasgow company and the Sugar House Rum brand. Launched in 2016, SeaWolf was the first white rum to be distilled in Scotland. The white rum brand came from the team behind renowned Edinburgh bar Bramble, Mike Aikman and Jason Scott, and Vino Wines’ co-founder, Gavin Ferguson, who have teamed up to create drinks innovation company, Boilermaker Drinks Co.

Orkney distillery J. Gow Rum recently added a three-year-old cask aged pot still rum to its core range.

Rum may be more commonly associated with the tropical islands of the Caribbean than the rugged British Isles, but in 2015, rum distillation came to Scotland for what was thought to be the first time when Dark Matter Distillers unveiled its first product. Since then, a number of Scottish producers have moved into the rum category and expanded their product lines beyond the country’s most famous drink. Banditti Club Rum is named after a group of rogues who used to hang out in Glasgow’s local public houses in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, singing, eating and generally causing havoc. Glasgow rum history The Banditti Club were a company of bold rogues who would meet in Glasgow’s local public houses; singing, eating and playing music late into the night
