About this deal

When he was seven, Cobain was briefly diagnosed as hyperactive; the singer later claimed that the subsequent three-month Ritalin course prescribed by a local doctor inaugurated his later drug abuse. Cross's portrayal of a shy but prodigiously gifted child, in artistic as well as musical terms, is a joy to read. The reason why I took another star off was the way the suicide was handled. It felt too detailed and made me feel very uncomfortable, and just like many other parts of the book, as if I were going too deep into somebody else's personal life.

When I spoke to Cross, he was fresh from reviewing the Soundgarden reunion gig at the Showbox at the Market in Seattle for Rolling Stone magazine. When I asked Cross about the show, Soundgarden’s first since their break up in 1997, he said it was “exciting”. “There was a sense of spontaneity”, he added, “that suggested anything could happen”. Cross also commented that although it was a “great show”, it also made him feel “sad” that we will “never see a Nirvana reunion show”. Published to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Nirvana's landmark Nevermind album, this is an engaging, comprehensive biography of the group's resident genius, the much-lamented Kurt Cobain. Utilizing more than 400 interviews and Cobain's unpublished diaries, Heavier than Heaven recounts the meteoric rise and sudden descent of the Seattle-based singer. bn.com Cross also noted that he understood it was a hard task to reveal a story of a man who was drug addict. So, he knew how serious his task was. He coped with this task and created a story for those “with courage to tell the truth, to ask painful questions, and to break free of the shadows of the past” (Cross xi). Having such an honorable goal Cross had to learn the whole truth about Kurt Cobain. I know Kurt is your spiritual animal homie and soul mate...so please don't slay me for abandoning and not loving this thing... This essay "Heavier Than Heaven – the Story of Cobain’s Life" was written and submitted by your fellow Fortunately, music entered his life. Kurt’s uncle presented him an electronic guitar. This can be regarded as a birth of the great star, an iconic figure of the generation X. Cobain took music lessons and soon he became a real ace. His music became a kind of relief for him. He also found a friend who shared his ideas and longings. This was Krist Novoselic who became a member of a renowned band Nirvana.

The burden of his family's history would turn Cobain from a seemingly popular high-school student into a fully fledged drug addict and drop-out, with a petulance and anger that would increasingly surface only in his music and drawings. But what petulance and what anger. Cobain and Hendrix had many things in common- they both were left-handed guitar players, both died at 27, had four-year musical careers and had battled drug addiction. They also both lived in Seattle, a city with one of the most notable music scenes in the world. I asked Cross if he felt enough had been done to honour both men in Seattle. “The answer is no. The city should honour them more. In the UK, they’ve got their blue plaques; we should have something like that here”. This book details Cobain’s life in a startling way. If you have any preconceived notions of who he was and how he operated, this book will most likely tear them to shreds. Heavier Than Heaven, although the name of a tour Nirvana was a part of, can easily be used to describe the soul of Kurt Cobain which is on full display in this biography.I finished reading the biography of Kurt Cobain, Heavier Than Heaven written by Charles Cross, just in time for what would have been his 41st birthday. My conclusion?Kurdt (that’s how he liked to spell it) was a jerk! IvyPanda. "Heavier Than Heaven - the Story of Cobain’s Life." Even his marriage with Courtney Love and the birth of their daughter Frances could not save the great lonelier from his depression. He had several overdoses within a few years. He had to postpone concerts as he was not able to perform due to his health problems. This frustration led to two albums Incesticide (1992) and In Utero (1993). The albums were financially successful projects, but many people considered them to be quite failing. The short unhappy life of Kurt Donald Cobain now has its worthy biographer. — Seattle Post-Intelligencer John Marshall
