About this deal

Disc sander: A disc sander is probably what most people think a random orbital sander is. The key difference is that they do spin in a fixed motion, much like the wheel on a car. They typically require two-handed operation and, like belt sanders, are better for tougher jobs where lots of material needs removing. The fixed motion means you need to be careful not to leave visible circle marks behind. Anything over 150 Watts with an orbital, the way it builds up power and oscillates will give you a smooth timber finish. I’m always using this sander for detail sanding, especially when I’m going to apply teak oil or similar after as the finish is perfectly smooth. Cordless palm sander is powerful and not far off the power of corded versions How long is the power lead on a corded orbital sander? As with any power tool, practice makes perfect, but there are a few techniques I use to get the most out of my random orbital sander:

The best orbital sanders come with a range of speeds that provide you with more control for your sanding jobs. If you don’t have an extractor I find the bag works ok, yeah there’s still loads of airborne dust but it does cut it down a fair bit. It’s certainly better than no extraction method at all! There are several factors you need to consider before buying a detail sander that would be perfect for your needs. Here are the most important ones which will help you decide wisely- Random orbital sanders are reasonably light in weight but for cordless tools don’t forget to factor in the battery weight – larger capacity batteries weigh more. When extreme reach isn’t at the top of your list, the best drywall sander is a simple handheld one. They’re similar in design to an angle grinder, with a grip for one hand with a trigger and a side handle for stability and control. They’re a bit easier to handle, more powerful and come with wearable dust collection systems. Dust Collection for Drywall SandersIf you are going to use the bag that’s supplied then make sure you keep your windows open and you should be wearing a mask and goggles if you’re using this tool full stop. Having a window open will be much better for you in the long term especially if you’ve got a lot of sanding to get through. What grit orbital sanding pads? The manufacturers are not trying to rip you off. Makita for example have over 250 tools running from their one type of battery now. You obviously only need a maximum of 6 batteries to tap into all of these cheap bare units. Once you have the batteries then cordless equipment becomes so tempting. I bought a cordless hoover for fifty quid the other day, I just can’t help myself 😀 I suppose there are worse addictions than tools 🙂 MAKITA DBO180Z doesn’t come with a battery Just like buying any tool there’s a few pitfalls and reasonable considerations. We cover these in the buyer guide for orbital sanders and if you do take a few minutes to read through I will probably save you time and money 🙂 Do they need batteries? The hand placement on a random orbital sander is for more than just grip though. The best random orbit sanders have a soft grip that reduces the vibrations that travel up your arm and tire you out, especially when you’re sanding acres of timber or plastics. Most orbital sanders come with a 125mm diameter pad, but the orbit diameter can fluctuate between models .

There’s 8 suction points under the sander – I highly recommend you buy the standard pads that are compatible with this. You can get them from anywhere really. It’s much better to go with these than buy a pad without holes then have to make your own. It’s becoming common place to extract so you’ll actually find the holed pads more easily than the non holed ones now! Something that’s changed in the last fifteen years as well! As is typical for this type of sander, the BO4556 is compact and lightweight with single-speed operation. It’s easy to use thanks to its toggle switch and soft non-slip elastomer grip, and even has an effective dust bag which isn’t a given for affordable finishing sanders. What’s more, you can make use of regular sheets of sanding paper via the simple clamp system.

We used the sanders on a range of different types of wood, including some with large surface areas, and others with hard-to-reach sections. We also used them with different sandpaper grades to evaluate how each one performs. All of the sanders were used for long enough to be able to assess their ergonomics, including weight and dimensions. The WX820 comes with a microfilter dust box and gives you plenty of control thanks to six different speed options. It’s not as powerful as a corded sander, but the battery means you can use it anywhere and is interchangeable with other Worx Powershare tools. Once you’ve decided which type of sander you need, there are a few things to look out for before making your final choice. Weight – It is obvious that the heavier your tool the more effort is required for its Heavy tools are difficult to maneuver too. If the specifications of tools you have selected are almost the same, it is always better to choose one that is lighter for ease of work.
