Supplements are another area in which there is some experimental support for certain findings relating to cancer. Turner admits there is no definitive proof organic food is better for health.* Some studies do show that ECGC (Epigallocatechin gallate) in green tea kills cancer cells.* Mushroom supplements like turkey tail may increase the amount of natural killer cells in the blood.* There is some support for high doses of C,* turmeric,* and daily probiotics.* Multivitamin intake may reduce cancer risk slightly.* Do you know how every cancer patient you’ve ever met says, “I don’t remember what happened when I was diagnosed. The last words I heard were, ‘You have cancer.’”? Working first as a psychotherapist with oncology patients, Dr. Turner vowed to help her patients find out what factors could potentially turn around a life-threatening cancer diagnosis. Returning to graduate school for her doctorate, Dr. Turner traveled the globe for a year, collecting data for her dissertation. Besides talking to Radical Remission survivors, Dr. Turner also interviewed fifty non-Western alternative healers from the jungles, mountains and cities of countries including the United States, China, England, Brazil, India and Zimbabwe. Once he was in Brazil, after waiting in line to see the healer, Matthew shared his desire with John of God- to be healed of his brain cancer. After having his energy field read and being given a burst of healing energy, Matthew was instructed to start taking energetically infused passionflower herbs every day and to meditate daily in the main meditation room with John of God. Only about a hundred people are invited at a time to meditate in the main room, where a strong current of energy is believed to course through the room.

Docuseries - Kelly Turner | NY Times Bestselling Author

Turner’s overarching goal for her research is to spur on further study of these radical remission cases in the hopes of learning more about the body’s ability to heal itself. I too focus my Thriving After Cancer Coaching and Support Program on uncovering the connections between the immune system, inflammation and cancer. My goal is to help you support your immune system and allow your body to maximize its own healing potential. Are There Shortcomings in the Research? Our 10-episode docuseries shares 21 POWERFUL stories of healing—recoveries that weren’t supposed to happen according to their doctors, but somehow did. In these 10 episodes, you will discover the 10 common healing factors that became the basis for New York Times bestselling author Kelly Turner, Ph.D.’s two books, Radical Remission and Radical Hope. Despite all that, if you can disregard the parts that you find unbelievable, there are valuable insights in this book that would benefit any cancer patient, regardless of prognosis. The nine "key factors" that radical remission patients share all sound very reasonable: Based on my experience in teaching people how to thrive after cancer, these findings are all in alignment with my recommendations. Reading this section of the book was reassuring that the published evidence I use to guide my nutrition recommendations is being confirmed in Turner’s work. If you are not already following these recommendations, then I would suggest that you work towards these goals. There is much to appreciate and admire about Radical Remission, but some of its most remarkable elements are the stories of people who have been cured from Stage 4 cancers. If she had stayed away from nutritional recommendations, many which I've found to be false based on Cochrane.org and reputable medical institutions, her introductions to alternative therapies (QiGong, meditation, willful being, spiritual energy practices, herbalism, etc) would have been better received. What do you do with that resistance? I mean, I think the lesson there that I take is that if you want to act like a radical remission survivor, you shouldn’t discount that voice from the beginning. You shouldn’t let six months or two years go by ignoring it. It should have a place at the decision-making table, at least that’s what the people I study say now. They say, “I wish that I would have just let it come to the table, let it have a voice.” Not necessarily always win or always be right, but at least have a vote in the matter.

Real-life stories from cancer survivors who have used the 9 key factors from the New York Times best-selling Radical Remission, with updated research and a 10th key factor revealed. Radical Remission offers practical tips for how to make such changes, whether you’re dealing with cancer or trying to prevent it. Let me say again that nobody is suggesting that cancer patients shouldn’t get conventional medical treatment. But let’s not stop there. Let’s do everything we can to optimize the chance for cure by combining conventional treatment with the kinds of mind-body approaches I share in Mind Over Medicine and Dr. Turner shares in Radical Remission. With this kind of Whole Health approach, we can rest easy, knowing that we’ve done everything possible to optimize health outcomes.

It became the focus of her PhD thesis at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Turner's research involved a year-long trip to 10 countries to interview 50 holistic healers and scores of cancer survivors about healing techniques. Since that time, she has analyzed more than 1000 cases of spontaneous remission and written a book: Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds. Dr. Turner prefers the term "radical remission" because typically there is nothing spontaneous about these unusual cures. Most patients were actively doing something to facilitate healing. I think so. It is uplifting to read about others who have survived cancer against the odds. Reading this book will provide a boost to your optimism and in turn, this can boost your immune system and help you to really thrive. For more on how optimism can help boost your immune system, read my blog on the subject here.

Radical Remission: The Nine Key Factors that Book Review of Radical Remission: The Nine Key Factors that

To illustrate the potential power of releasing suppressed emotions, Dr. Turner shares a life story about Joe, a gay man diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. Joe worked on letting go of his resentments toward his partner and toward God, focusing on “letting go of every ounce of anger and pessimism from his past” — along with a whole host of other lifestyle changes. Despite dire predictions, tests have shown that Joe’s tumors have continued to either shrink or hold steady. Kelly Turner: Exactly. My husband is a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, and so I hear about chi from him. Then I’ve got the prana from my yoga training, and then we hear about the electromagnetic biofield from Western medicine and I’m like, “Oh, we’re all actually talking about the same thing.”Kelly Turner: One of those factors, just on its own, reduces the risk of cancer by 50%, so imagine them combined. I definitely interview people who, as soon as they were diagnosed, they were drenched in fear, of course, because that System One took over. And then they heard this loud voice, because instinct takes over and they’re in fight-or-flight/survival mode. They were operating by instinct and that instinctual voice came and said, “Quit your job. Your job is killing you.” Then the frontal cortex said, “Oh, but I can’t quit. I can’t quit my job, because what about money, and what about this, and what about that?” So, they didn’t quit their job. And then they get cancer treatment and they have their health insurance, but then it’s not working and they’re getting closer to death as opposed to farther away from death. And then they quit their job, and then they’re suddenly so much happier. The problem with anecdotal theories is that there is no way of telling if a specific action, change in lifestyle, or treatment was the sole cause of remission or improvement, or if the improvement may have been due to other variables. Certainly no one would argue that the nine primary explanations given by Turner’s respondents are not positive lifestyle changes. (I speak as a vegetarian who practices yoga, meditation, and spirituality.) But these explanations do not add up to healing cures. This is due to the nature of respondent explanations. When seeking reasons for why something happens people will reach for the explanations they have at hand. Usually these explanations come from their cultures. Occasionally the person may have done some study or research to come up with an explanation. Very rare is the case of a specialist in the field who is familiar with the current research and discourse. But in general we take the explanations with which we are familiar. If everyone in my society believes the earth is flat I will probably echo that view too. We can call these explanations folk theories. I will first distinguish her term radical remission from the more common term spontaneous remission. Spontaneous remission or spontaneous regression (SR) of cancer translates into the recovery of a patient from cancer in the absence of a disease-specific treatment, or in the presence of inadequate therapy. The recovery, therefore, does not involve conventional cancer treatment modalities such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Radha and Lopus note that most cases of SR appear to be related to acute infections. The body’s immune response is activated by infection, which in turn fights the tumor. Coley’s Toxin, a vaccine first administered in 1891 to treat sarcoma—successfully, in many cases—included deactivated Streptococcus progenies and Serratia marcescens. The literature I surveyed seems to agree that patients with certain cancers—metastatic melanoma, leukemia, lung cancer, and Merkel cell carcinoma—are more likely to experience SR. In her research, Dr. Turner found that 75 healing factors appeared in these cases, but nine were common among all of the cases she studied. She calls them, “The Nine Key Factors That Can Make a Real Difference.” If you believe God is a force or energy or an "it" that you can awaken, involve and tell that divine force to help you.
