About this deal

This Book Kills is based on my experiences of entering the legal profession and being surrounded by people who had gone to private schools and wondering what advantages that had given them over someone like me, who had gone to a state school. We all ended up working at the same law firms – what did their educations give them that mine didn’t give me? What, exactly, were their parents paying for? From that starting point, the themes of power and privilege felt very natural to explore.

Todo el trabajo lo hicieron los adolescentes. Asesinar, investigar, descubrir y parar al asesino. Por eso siempre he dicho que la eficiencia está en los jóvenes. The reason that this is a tough question is because ideally, I’d love to have a cast of completely unknown British actors playing the main teenagers. Regia club: wederom echt nice idee en hielp echt om de context/setting (idk hoe da noemt) super interessant te maken ma ik snap het ni… en meer ga ik ni zeggen want spoilers It's been a longgg while since I was ever interested in a YA mystery book. I mostly read thrillers and mystery novels that deal with more adult themes, so the way this YA mystery was able to intrigue me from the synopsis alone was definitely a welcomed surprise. I enjoyed a lot of the aspects in this book– the mystery, the plot twists, the characters, the writing and the pacing. I genuinely did not expect a lot of the plot twists in this book. Even though I guessed the identity of the murderer before the big reveal, I was still fairly surprised by a lot of the revelations. The concept of This Book Kills is what caught my attention first. A teenager, writing a murder story and inspiring an actual murder? That sounds chilling. Overall, ‘This Book Kills’ proved an entertaining mystery that kept me guessing as to whodunnit until the final reveal. While marketed as YA, I felt that Ravena Guron has written a novel that is bound to will appeal to lovers of mysteries of all ages. I wouldn’t say this is the deadliest thriller of 2023, but it’s for sure the most intriguing YA thriller I have read so far. It kept me on the edge of my seat; the clues, the drama, the plot twists just kept coming. I ended up predicting the culprit, but I don’t think it was very predictable. I loved the fact that the book stops at a certain point and tells you to make a prediction, because a reveal is about to happen. As soon as I got the reveal, I was beyond happy that I guessed it right. This interaction with the book made me completely forget whether my prediction was predictable or not. I’ll make it clear from the start: I did not kill Hugh Henry Van Boren. I didn’t even help. Well, not intentionally.”

A really gripping boarding school murder mystery full of entitlement, gossip, secret societies and threats. I didn’t even help. Well, not intentionally.”When Hugh Henry Van Boren, one of the most popular and richest kids in Jess Choudhary’s school, is found dead, the student body is left reeling and wondering who the murderer could be… Jess, a student under strict instructions to keep her record clean or risk losing her scholarship, finds herself at the centre of the investigation when it’s revealed that Hugh died in the exact same way as a character in a short story she wrote.

I’d love to go to book festivals – like Edinburgh International Book Festival, and Hay Festival – they always look so incredible! And I went to YALC last year for the first time and had the most amazing day meeting other YA authors and readers – it would be an absolute dream to do a panel. I’d also love to do events at bookshops and libraries all around the country – explore different areas and meet readers all over. I’d love to do all the events! But I loved her refreshing voice and personality which was soo different from all the self entitled people around her and her singleminded goal helped to keep a fairly clear focus on uncovering the killer, and their motive for murder—which truly made for an immersive (and enjoyable armchair detective style reading experience.) The lovebirds’ happiness is short-lived however as Hugh is found murdered on the school grounds. The rumour mill erupts with theories as to who could have killed one of the most popular pupils in the school.

Fun, twisty and insightful...will keep you on the edge of your seat." Adiba Jaigirdar, YA Book Prize winning author of Hani and Ishu's Guide to Fake Dating Infamous criminal tycoon Eli Morrison has just one weakness—his daughter, Penelope. And Penelope has just one wish for her nineteenth birthday—a private concert with Winter Young. When covert ops organization The Panacea Group approaches Winter with this once-in-a-lifetime chance to infiltrate Morrison’s inner circle, Winter must use his fame, cunning, and charisma to pull it off—only he won’t be on his own. I did guess the murderer quite early on. However, there are so many twists and turns with other discoveries coming up and stuff that it definitely made me rethink multiple times. There were definitely moments where I had sidestepped from my first suspicions, but after about 65%-70% I was sure who had done it. I’m kind of disappointed that it already became pretty obvious after that point due to the author pointing out certain reactions (in conversations, actions, et cetera) of the murderer. Maybe it was intended to be like that, but I would have liked to be on the edge of my seat for just a little longer!

Marketing Plan

Agatha Christie is one of the few adult authors I would read as a teen – I loved how she set out puzzles in her book, how a mystery is like a game between reader and author.
