As revealed in A Snow Day for Searching!, Goh was always alone during his childhood because his parents were often very busy at work. In Sword and Shield: Slumbering Weald!, Goh and Ash were sent to Galar to investigate various incidents where Pokémon suddenly began Dynamaxing at random. Shortly after arriving, Goh and Ash chased a wild Bunnelby into the Slumbering Weald, where they encountered Zamazenta and Zacian. Their attempts to catch and battle the two Legendary Pokémon ended in failure as they were merely illusions. After exiting the forest, Goh met with Sonia again and headed with her to investigate the ruins in Turffield. In the following episode, Sonia took Goh to visit her grandmother Professor Magnolia to learn more about Dynamax. Goh later received a Dynamax Band from Sonia, which was fashioned from a Wishing Star they found outside. The next day, at the Stow-on-Side mural, Goh and Sonia were approached by Oleana's subordinate, who aimed to stop the duo's research. Goh Dynamaxed Raboot to battle Oleana's subordinate's Gigantamax Garbodor, but the clash broke the mural, revealing a statue of Zacian and Zamazenta underneath. With the help of Zacian and Zamazenta, Ash and Goh defeated Eternatus, after which they threw one of Goh's Poké Balls at it together, catching it.
