Oh, I do miss Rupert. He is by far my favourite brother. We are not at all alike even though we are twins (Rupert is very good-looking and I am not), but when we were little Papa called us Tweedledee and Tweedledum. We went everywhere together and frequently spoke in unison. We weren’t interested in our sister Beth when she was born. We couldn’t be bothered with any other playmate. We were an entity unto ourselves. What is wrong with mothers in JW books? They're either incredible, working mums, snappish, evil, pressuring non-working mums or dead. I understand that it makes a good novel, but eyou know what also makes a good novel? A bit of variety.

Sometimes I find it very hard indeed to like Mama. However, I love Papa and I will try to learn to sketch properly for his sake. The plot was absolutely thrilling, inspiring, and gripping; it always captured my mind from whatever I was doing; it never became boring and was left on a very exciting cliff hanger, leaving longing for more! While reading, I felt as if I was with her overcoming and encountering all the problems she faced as a girl. I also felt some sympathy and pity for Rose due to the injustice of education, because, I knew (although I take school for granted) I would too fight for a proper education at school. I would definitely recommend it! Interestingly I went to a talk at Cheltenham Literature Festival yesterday about historical children’s books. They’re definitely a great way to learn in an enjoyable way. My daughter likes historical fiction better than books set in the present day. Post a Reply Let’s focus on before that. All her siblings are really well written and interesting and Rupert was really cool! I also loved the staff and the way that she managed to get Clover Moon and Hetty Feather in because they are some of my favourite characters! I love their fiery spirits. Rose is nice but she’s a bit of an annoying character and being in her head wasn’t as fun as Clover’s but I still liked it! Her parents were also cool and the storyline had a good flow and I liked it. Rupert and Pamela were weird but it didn’t bother me because she wasn’t a massive character. She misses her brother very much. But then she makes two new friends, though neither are considered suitable: the new nursery maid, Clover Moon, and her father’s bohemian protégé, Paris Walker. Rose suddenly finds her life turned upside down …

The book is very well researched and written, clear enough for children to understand even the things that seem very unfamiliar. And unlike some of the recent ones, it does finish, more or less, rather than stop. I'm guessing there'll be more from either Clover or Rose in another year. Good review that made me think these are worth looking into further, #ReadWithMe Post a Reply All in all, I found this novel very interesting and I have taken in a lot of information on different perspectives and how lives were in the Victorian times. I now feel I could reflect on my new knowledge, which could then make my actions more thankful and generous. It could also perhaps lead me into being more understanding with other people’s problems and maybe more giving to others who are less able or unfortunate. But I hate her relationship with Mr Walker or ‘Paris’ because I find it creepy and their interaction is defiantly not my favourite. They weren’t that bad and I could look past it.
