About this deal

They are comprised of many different combinations of natural and synthetic varnish and resins, mineral oil, tung oil, linseed oil, poppy oil, cotton oil, sunflower oil, white spirit, naptha, driers, anti-skin agents, etc etc!

Because the finish is so hard-wearing, It’s ideal for surfaces that get a lot of use, like tabletops and worktops. Danish Oil naturally has a low-sheen finish, which can be buffed slightly with a fine grade (000) wire wool. Also, it might darken the wood, which could be a problem if you want to keep the oak's natural color. This protects and enhances the natural beauty of your wood and does not leave a surface film that is chip or scratch with use. The board was left at room temperature for 48 hours before it was used to allow the Danish oil to cure. After the initial drying products like this cure by oxidation and while the process is sped up with the additional of metallic driers to make it more user-friendly it's still something that takes days to complete minimum, and more likely a week or more despite what the product literature might say or imply.

If you have oak worktops, we recommend using our Worktop Maintenance Kit, which includes the Danish Oil. Go over the entire surface with light pressure, as if you are trying to polish the surface whilst removing the excess.Wet with water any textiles or tools soiled with the product and dispose of them in a tightly closed container. If this doesn't work then wiping on a fresh coat of finish and buffing it off should do the trick (tip: don't just wipe away the excess, wipe hard, buffing the surface well for a good 5-10 minutes).

Secondly they said "Once you have sealed any wood with an oil there is nothing you can place over the top. Whilst you do need to apply the oil liberally, it’s also important not to let it puddle and wipe away any excess after it’s soaked into the surface for a few minutes. If you'd like to try an experiment on a less important piece or on some scrap, there's no absolute need to sand between every coat – no matter if sprayed, wiped on or applied by brush/roller – you can build up many coats of finish until you have a good film and wet sand in one stage at the end. After the fifth coat of oil, your wooden worktop should look professionally finished with a smooth feel on the surface and a satin effect. As I already mentioned, Danish oil is extremely easy to use, and the only problem you may encounter is sticky oil that isn’t drying.

Once you have prepared the wood ready for the oil, the Danish Wood Oil will penetrate the wood's surface, enhancing the natural beauty of the wood and bringing out the grain. If I was doing say door trim, I would apply with a foam brush on the first side of each piece, rotate them,.

The left photo shows only the bottom half being oiled, and the photo to the right is the finished floor.Products like "Danish oil" vary a lot from maker to maker and additionally how much was initially applied, the absorbency of the wood, the temperature and humidity and how thoroughly the excess was wiped away are all factors in the 'drying' time. The construction is solely of mortice and tenon with a few dowels in non-structural areas, the glue used is polyurethane water proof. The Danish Oil provides great resistance to water and staining, which is what makes it our recommended oil for applying to kitchen worktops, especially around the sink. I don't mind it darkening with time, as you say I guess that's inevitable, but I would have liked it to start off looking "right" to my eyes. Always test product on a spare surface or inconspicuous area for colour, compatibility and end result.
