To test the night vision, we set the camera up in our basement guest room (it was daytime when we did our review, and this was the only place we could make completely dark!). Fear of “what might happen” is also a big driver of baby monitor sales: the original “Radio Nurse” was created by designer Isamu Noguchi for the Zenith Radio Corp. after parental paranoia peaked in response to the Lindbergh baby abduction of 1932. It was reasonably priced and showed extremely high reliability and quality, with some decent features. In fact, it was the first baby monitor to offer interchangeable lenses (narrow, regular, wide). We are tempted to recommend the LeFun Fi368 camera to more people, but there’s basically one thing stopping us: Wi-Fi itself. Nap time is the reason we own baby monitors. By the time your little bundle of joy is sawing logs mid-afternoon, you’re usually more than ready to take a break and do something other than sit quietly in the corner. A baby monitor lets you close the door (so you can make some noise) without worrying that you’ve abdicated responsibility. We love our babies, but it’s great to be able to love them from the comfort of a downstairs sofa while they’re asleep in their cribs.

Inside the box are two identical-looking power adapters, but they aren't the same. Each is clearly marked, one for the camera (5.9V) and one for the monitor (5.0V). There's an extra USB cable for charging the monitor from a USB port or a power bank. Missing from the Pro (but available in the old model) is an option to charge the monitor with a micro USB cable, so you'll need to buy another proprietary charger if you lose one. One thing that concerned us when we first started testing the DXR-8 PRO was the small green power light on the front of the camera (see photo below). Answer: Press and hold the PAIR key underneath the camera unit for at least 3 seconds. The LED light will flash green to indicate that the camera is in pairing mode. On your parent monitor unit, you will see the new camera appearing in the add camera menu. Just select the new camera and you’re done. We do still use the Infant Optics because it is always on. You could get similar results with a cheap audio monitor and the Google Nest cam. Not exactly the same because I can easily glance at the Infant Optics monitor if I hear something without having to wait for the app to launch on my phone.The monitor has an alarm timer which is handy for moms on a feeding schedule, or when planning to nap for a few hours.

Temperature monitor: If you’re in a different room you may want to keep an eye on room temperature, especially if you live in a place like California where you’re not using a thermostat all the time to maintain room temperature. None of the thermometers we tested had better accuracy than three degrees Fahrenheit, but it might add to your peace of mind. Another good feature of the Infant Optics DXR-8 is the ability to remotely pan, tilt, and zoom the video image as needed. You can tilt the camera on a 270-degree horizontal angle (135 degrees both left and right), and pan across a 120-degree vertical angle (95 degrees up and 25 degrees down), which is great to perfectly keep your baby’s bed in focus. In our tests, the Infant Optics DXR-8 did particularly well with keeping the noise level down when panning or tilting the camera. No interference:You should have a secure and interference-free transmission because this monitor transmits on the 2.4 GHz frequency and use the FHSS technology. Answer: No. While you can add up to four cameras to one parent unit, you will be able to see only one camera at a time. The Infant Optics DXR-8 does not have a split-screen mode. Control:Even if it’s not a touchscreen, the control buttons are very responsive, and the menu is easy to use. Compared to the original, the Pro baby monitor has a sound filterthat discriminates between relevant and irrelevant sounds. And speaking of speakers, the new version has louder and clearer sound quality. The tiny engineering upgrade will play a vital role in alerting you when your baby cries at night. There is no chance you can snooze through the loud sound your parent unit can produce.

It did start beeping an occasional “low battery” warning after only six hours (less than halfway through the battery’s capacity) to remind you to top it up, but if you’re in a pinch it’s got a lot of reserve battery. We included two audio-only baby monitors, since we know some parents just don’t want to put a camera in the nursery. (You’ll also save some money if you skip the camera.) In addition, the alarm is loud enough to wake you up.The parent device has volume and brightness control that allows you to adjust these to your comfort level. This is so nice when you are trying to catch some sleep. Some monitors do not give users such control. If there is a subtle light source in the room, you will notice a bit of a dark haze entering from one or more edges of the display. If you have the screen off and the volume down, an LED bar will activate when noise is heard. The monitor's built-in speakers are very tinny, but they're more than sufficient for listening for important sounds like crying. Simpler Than a Smart Monitor

Another factor that can help prolong the Infant Optics battery is to fully charge it right after purchasing it.
