Published (Sept 21, 2021). Alternative therapies, healing modalities, and spiritual practices are often referred to as 'woo-woo'. I found I listened the best when he talked about things that I was interested in, such as reiki and crystals. I actually listened to the reiki section as I was walking to my reiki appointment and found it boosted up my excitement for going to my appointment and belief in what it could do for me. October 11, 2023 CHANNELED Messages From Higher Dimensions. PROFOUND INSIGHTS To Explore The Depths Of Your Soul | Daniel Scranton Obviously, this is just a shortlist of what was talked about in Why Woo-Woo Works. There were a lot of things discussed that I found very interesting.

Belief mobilizes the brain's natural resources to meet the person's expectations. That is, a belief about what's supposed to happen instructs the brain to produce what it needs to produce to deliver that result." The first part explores the placebo effect, visualization, meditation, and the link between suppressed emotions and disease. These are at what we might call the ‘lower end’ of woo-woo in that at least some people are aware of the scientific evidence that exists for them. I share that evidence with you, and also explain exactly how these phenomena and practices work. You know, what, honestly, what really attracted me to organic chemistry is I want it to contribute to finding a cure for cancer. Because when you do a chemistry PhD, and what my specialism in my final year of my chemistry, so honours degree, my specialism was biological medicinal chemistry. And that’s when you start to realise the applications of chemistry to life and to, you know, discovering cures for diseases. And I know, I realised that, you know, one way to find a cure for cancer is to design an organic molecule that’s like a chain of carbons in hydrogen and nitrogen is what we call drugs, nowadays. And so what drew me into the subject was I just wanted, I just wanted to help to cure cancer. And that was the, the given my expertise. That was the only thing I could think of contributing. And so when an opportunity came up to do a PhD in organic chemistry to actually research the intricacies of how to actually build a molecule that might well play a role in cancer. Research. That’s what drew me into it to be really honest. David Hamilton PhD has been studying the mind-body connection and the power of thought for years, finding compelling evidence of why and how alternative therapies can and do work. In his trademark warm and conversational tone, he explains the science and spirituality behind some of today's most popular alternative practices. He explores four key aspects of healing: After completing his PhD, he worked for 4 years in the pharmaceutical industry, first developing drugs for cardiovascular disease and cancer, then a year managing leadership and change projects. During this time he also served as an athletics coach and manager of Sale Harriers Manchester, one of the UK’s largest athletics clubs, leading the Junior Men’s team to three successive UK finals. Upon leaving the pharmaceutical industry, he co-founded the international relief charity Spirit Aid Foundation and served as a director for 2 years.

In this dynamic and thought-provoking book, David R. Hamilton PhD dives deeper into the true nature of consciousness and presents the cutting-edge research behind energy healing, crystals, meditation, and more. so fascinating. Yeah, and I want to because I’ve even in my notes here, I’ve got crystals and the smiley face right in my notes here. And and I just want to tell you a brief story. And then I’d love to hear your thoughts on this because a good mate of mine has a good mate. So somebody I work with man, his good friend, works in a crystal shop in mullumbimby. Now I don’t know if you’ve been to this part of the world, Byron Bay in mullumbimby. In that, I think mullumbimby as woo woo, in Australia, I think you could live anywhere. And and they have what’s called the crystal chair. Okay, now, the guy, the guy that opened the shop said he built the chair first. Because he always had crystals. And he said, the chair told me to, to then open a shop to put the chair in, so then he could then let people freely come in. And there’s this whole story behind it. So I go in and sit in this chair, and there’s all these crystals at different meridian points in different energy centres and all the rest. And I sat in the chair David, I know nothing about crystals. And after about 10 minutes, oh my god, my whole body was just vibrating part of my face just kind of fully relaxed. It was like one side of my face. just completely let go. And I got off that thing. Just what the hell was that? You know, and, and I remember I went home, I had to sleep for about an hour. And then I got up and I was just like, oh my god, I feel amazing. So I’ve always been curious. Yeah. So from your perspective, why is that in the book? And what have you learned around that over the years? Because I never thought I’d be talking about crystals. Another therapy I studied was crystal therapy. I nearly completed the year but in the end had to stop as my increasing and overwhelming thought was that it was utter hokem. On emotional contagion: "The direction in which it flows - the is, who is the sender and who is the receiver - depends on who is the stronger expresser of their emotions." There are parts of the book that captured my attention more than others. On the whole an interesting look (at the often misunderstood practices of mind, body and soul ) through a scientific lens.To a large extent, the brain doesn't distinguish real from imaginary, and this underpins some aspects of the placebo effect." A few things I knew intuitively that I hadn’t seen proven by science was the power of intention (of the healer), the effect of empathy by a medical practitioner and the difference it makes to pain thresholds having plants in a (waiting) room, or in any room. It's almost as if, if we harden our emotional heart toward others, so we harden in our physical heart. Emotional hardening seems to be mirrored in the cardiovascular system." of 5 stars 2 of 5 stars 3 of 5 stars 4 of 5 stars 5 of 5 stars Why Woo-Woo Works: The Surprising Science Behind Meditation, Reiki, Crystals, and Other Alternative Practices by David R. I use this cloud weight example to demonstrate that we often question the veracity of particular theories or ideas simply because we know very little about them, or sometimes even because we’ve heard other people refer to them as unscientific and it would seem sensible to adopt the same viewpoint. We’re social creatures, after all. We sometimes call things'woo-woo'not because we're experts on those subjects, but because we're not experts and we haven't dived into all the available science and research. In this book, David has done a stellar job in gathering the science and philosophy of a range of seeminglywoo-woosubjects and shown that they are, in fact, 'true-woo'."- Vex King, #1 Sunday Timesbestselling author of Good Vibes, Good Life Yeah. So when did those worlds started merging? Because I know you’ve spoken about the placebo effect. And you were some of the testing that that obviously some of the people that weren’t taking the prescribed drugs, were having just as good as results is that does that mean then we have the pharmacy already within us, we just need to signal it. At the Many years ago I was having lunch with a friend. I was talking about how we are connected by consciousness. I knew I had read some studies connected to quantum physics but I was doing a really bad job of explaining. At the end, he said to me, "I just want you to fall in love with the science." Dr. Hamilton is a writer, columnist, speaker, kindness scientist and former organic chemist. He received his PhD in organic chemistry and worked in R&D in the pharmaceutical industry, developing drugs for cardiovascular disease and cancer. He eventually left the industry to write books and educate people how they can harness the power of their mind and emotions to improve their mental and physical health. We get very deep into the woo, but after exploring the extensive science behind it all we discover a lot of woo woo is actually TRUE WOO!!! Whether skeptic or believer this is an eye-opening, fun, and profound conversation.

In this book, I take a range of subjects that are typically denounced as 'woo-woo' and show that there's actually a lot of science in support of them, but that it's largely known only to those working in the relevant field.

Why Woo‑Woo Worksis one of the clearest and most accurate expositions of alternative mind‑body practices that I’ve had the pleasure to read. Hamilton also offers explanations that help to demystify the woo‑woo taboo. A delightful and inspiring read.” - Dean Radin, Ph.D., Chief Scientist, Institute of Noetic Sciences In addition to reducing stress, meditation can result in higher levels of the telomerase enzyme, which can slow the rate of ageing at a genetic level. It is believed that the practitioner’s own state is therefore of paramount importance. Research at the Heartmath Institute in Boulder, Colorado, invited volunteers to sit in close proximity. When one person was feeling empathy, compassion, love, or any similar ‘heart focused’ state, their heart rhythms guided (or entrained) the brain waves of the person they were close to. For a scientist I think he is brave in writing this book as he will tell you - there are many people out there that try and discredit those who believe it in something that generally brings up much skepticism among the masses.
