In 2002, when the “Fevernova” debuted for the Japan and South Korea World Cup, it was labelled a “ridiculous kiddie’s bouncing ball” by Gianluigi Buffon, while the 2010 “Jabulani” was described variously as “a beach ball” (Iker Casillas) and “dreadful” (David James), after its “grip and groove” surface on 3D panels appeared to perform erratically at altitude in pre-tournament friendlies. Since then, the ball has also played a starring role in competitions such as the FIFA Club World Cup, Copa del Rey, MLS, DFB Pokal as well as numerous international friendlies. AFC [ edit ] Clubs involved in testing included AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Palmeiras and Fluminense. Players involved in the process included global football stars Leo Messi, Iker Casillas, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Zinedine Zidane. The ball is a developmental successor to the Adidas Tango 12 series of balls, with the same bladder and carcass but a different surface structure. [2] [5] The ball weighs 437 grams and has a circumference of 69 centimetres. [6] The ball has been made of six polyurethane panels which have been thermally bonded; the reduction in the number of panels is claimed to increase the consistency in the ball. [2] The Brazuca ball has been stated to avoid aerodynamic problems with the Jabulani ball used in South Africa for the previous World Cup. [7] It is textured to feel more like the Adidas Finale 13, the official UEFA Champions League ball, than the Jabulani.

"World Cup 2014: Adidas "Brazuca" Ball Scores With Fans". Forbes . Retrieved 14 June 2014. adidas has unveiled ‘brazuca’, the official match ball for the 2014 FIFA world cup in brazil. two-and-half-years in the making, the ‘brazuca’ has undergone extensive testing involving 600 of the world’s top players and 30 teams in 10 countries across three continents, including four-time player of the year lionel messi and italian club AC milan, making it the most tested ball ever by adidas. the technology incorporated into the bladder and carcass of ‘brazuca’ is identical to the tango 12 used in the 2012 EUFA euro cup, with its ribbon panel design and colors symbolizing the traditional multicolored wish bracelets worn in brazil. a new structural innovation provides a unique symmetry of six identical panels alongside a different surface texture which aims to enhance grip, touch, stability and aerodynamics on the pitch. adidas is an official partner of the FIFA World Cup. It provides the match officials with football boots and their matchday attire and supplies the official match ball, which becomes the symbol of the brand's sponsorship role every four years. It brought fans closer to the game than ever before. Lightning-fast real-time reactive tweets made its wit and perspective a part of the biggest tournament conversations, from France's flirtation with goal-line technology to Germany's triumph at the Maracana.
