About this deal

Any FX DSLR works much better with manual focus lenses, adding correct EXIF data and faster electronic focus aids absent with this adapter. Then again, use this adapter on mirrorless and you can shoot silently with VR and much better see the limited depth-of-field with lenses shot wider than f/2.5 than you can on DSLRs. There are only six Tokina lenses with specific notices about FTZ adapter incompatibility. Here they are: Note: Updates can be performed for you by a Nikon-authorized service representative. Changes from Firmware Version 1.00 to 1.10 These are 50-year-old lenses that Nikon warns may have mechanical interference and not be able to mount. Go ahead and try — carefully — and see what happens with them. If they mount, and most of them just might, you'll get VR, metering and A and M exposure modes: In fact, with the announcemert of the FTZII Nikon admitted that it only works properly with 90 lens models — but Nikon has made about 360 F-mount lens models. Thus the FTZ and FTZII only have about a 25% sucess rate.

falconeyes, said "Having an AF motor in the body was a brilliant idea". Wow, I guess that is why the AF motor in the body is prevailing tech now, huh? Manual-focus AI‑P lenses like the 45mm f/2.8 AI-P work about the same as old AF lenses from the 1980s: they are manual focus with full EXIF communication and exposure control. The Z-series lenses so far have been almost universally excellent, and we are excited to see what Nikon’s optical engineers will continue to do with such a flexible mount. It’s also unreasonable to expect that Nikon would have produced a full series of Z lenses in less than three years, especially given the pandemic interrupting some of their operations. However, if Nikon wants to catch up to Sony’s lens lineup and avoid falling behind Canon, they need to get out some more lenses, especially telephotos, as soon as possible. Nikon got cheap and didn't include an aperture-ring feeler in the FTZ as in every FX DSLR, so it can't read the actual set aperture and doesn't read it in the finder, and cannot control the aperture from the camera for Program or Shutter-priority auto exposure. You could do all this — and get better Matrix metering — in 1984's Nikon FA than with this FTZ. The more streamlined design makes it possible to exchange between NIKKOR Z and F lenses while the camera is kept mounted on a tripod.

What makes these new lenses so good? Although part of it is certainly that Nikon is drawing from its long history as a lens company, another big factor is the Z mount itself. Nikon Z Mount

APO 800mm F5.6 EX DG HSM ( Of this lens,Sigma says “it is difficult to achieve sufficient focusing accuracy” and “please use manual focus.”) Nikon got cheap and didn't include an autofocus motor in the FTZ, so there is no autofocus with these oldest screw-type AF lenses from the 1980s like the 50mm f/1.8 AF. You get full EXIF communication and exposure control, but no electronic manual focus aids or distortion correction. Using a card slot or card reader, copy “MAFTZ0110.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera. Among interchangeable zoom lenses for mirrorless digital cameras with interchangeable lenses equipped with a 35mm film size image sensor, with a focal-length range from 24 mm at the wide-angle end to 105-120 mm at the telephoto end, and a maximum aperture of f/4 or less, available as of October 28, 2021. Statement based on Nikon research. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. Read our editorial mission & see how we test. The Nikon FTZ and FTZII are lens mount adapters that let us use any F-Mount Nikon SLR or DSLR lens with varying extents of usefulness on Nikon's full-frame mirrorless cameras. VR is a stand-alone feature. All VR lenses are either traditional screw-type AF or AF-S, in which column you'll see how the other features work. We’ll start with Nikon-brand lenses, most of which are at least partly compatible with the FTZ adapter. Here’s where they stand.
