About this deal

NOTE: Original review post after ep.1 on January 10th 2023 at 3.00am, then updated weekly as per the embargoes. And then we move on to Joel, changing from Texan to Chilean… no, wait, it turns out ‘Joel’ is from Texas after all. But actor Pedro Pascal is from Chile, whereas the original videogame actor, Troy Baker is from Texas. Yes, he’s not a big name, but seeing his picture on Wikipedia, he could be dolled up to be Joel. In fact, Pedro even says, as Joel, that he’s from Texas, but he certainly doesn’t sound it. Why not just get an actor who can do a Texan accent? Like… Troy Baker? Hmm… Inside the Episode #6-Series stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey break down the growing bond between Joel and Ellie. Initially treating Ellie with the same gruff cynicism with which he greets the rest of the world, and dismissive of the hope that others see in her, Joel gradually warms to her, even caring for her as a surrogate daughter. In the second episode of the season, after the initial job to hand Ellie over to the Fireflies on the outskirts of Boston goes belly-up, he resolves to help her find her way to a medical facility in Utah. The journey there becomes a tour of the various mini-dystopias that have sprung up in the two decades since society collapsed. Get to Know Me – Merle Dandridge-Get to know the face behind Marlene as Merle Dandridge talks about getting cast and what’s in her survival bag.

With a 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Last of Us has been declared “HBO’s next big hit” by Rolling Stone, with Variety noting, “one sees the near future in which the show winds up among television’s best.” IndieWire declared the new series “better than every video game adaptation that comes to mind,” with IGN hailing it as “a brilliant retelling of one of video games’ most beloved stories” and adding that it “delivers an enriching show for fans of the PlayStation hit, while also managing to stay welcomingly thrilling to newcomers.” CNN called the storytelling “absolutely fearless and unflinching, creating horrifying scenarios and moments that can be alternately touching and utterly tragic.” Is This a The Last of Us Line?– Merle Dandridge & Gabriel Luna-Watch Gabriel Luna and Merle Dandridge try to guess which lines are from their show and which are from other HBO series.Episode 5 arrived, finally bringing Henry and his younger brother, Sam, into the story, but this time with Sam being deaf. As an aside, there’s also an issue for some that there are no spores in this series. Perhaps because that would cause the actors to have their faces covered while wearing masks, but then there’s tendrils instead, which it appears were already a part of the game – as the video below shows. That said, there’s a number of issues with the series anyway, which I’ll get into as it goes on, each of which will air after the episode has ended, and EXPECT SPOILERS WITHIN! Pedro Pascal ( The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984) and Bella Ramsey (HBO’s His Dark Materialsand Game of Thrones) star as Joel and Ellie. Gabriel Luna ( True Detective )as Joel’s younger brother and former soldier, Tommy; Merle Dandridge ( The Last of Usvideo games, The Flight Attendant) as resistance leader Marlene; and Anna Torv ( Fringe)as Tess, a smuggler and fellow hardened survivor. The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Anna Torv, as Tess, is fine, though, and for Marlene, Merle Dandridge is the original videogame actress, so she’s technically the best casting here. Now, for Ellie, in case you’re not aware, she’s voiced in the game by Ashley Johnson… who is almost 40, so she wouldn’t pass for a 14-year-old girl any more than I would. And I’m a man!

The Last Of Us Season 1 DVD follows a hardened smuggler and his 14-year-old charge as they struggle to escape an oppressive quarantine zone. At this point, the game shows us a conversation between Joel and Tess, whereas the TV series sees the cops dealing with a young girl they’ve chanced upon, who’s out walking on her own. It’s not Ellie, but it does lead into Joel and Tess’ introduction in 2023. Controllers Down: Adapting The Last of Us (New Featurette Exclusive to 4K, BD and DVD) - Follow the journey of The Last of Us from console to screen as cast and filmmakers take us inside the process of expanding the world and breathing new life into the game’s beloved characters.

But now let’s get onto the massive elephant in the room… the casting. Oh, boy…. I’ve certainly mentioned this a time or two in my videos, here, but let’s be brief so as to save my fingers. From Levels to Live Action (New Featurette Exclusive to 4K, BD and DVD) - Discover how The Last of Us incorporated and expanded fan-favorite game moments in the series. As The Last of Us progresses through its brutal take on the archetypical hero’s journey, its insistently grimdark vision of human nature appears more and more to be a fashionable façade. Ellie’s confrontation with David (Scott Shepherd), the leader of a cannibalistic cult, in the eighth episode provides a pair of suspenseful scenes and a showcase for Ramsay, but as it plays out here, the plotline’s trajectory is too clearly telegraphed from the outset, and the way that Shepherd’s duplicitous villain serves as a foil for Joel’s caring paternalism is too plainly laid out. In the end, by stripping out the gameplay from a vivid genre game that’s fleshed out by cinematic and televisual tropes, the series ends up as mostly just the latter: all flesh, no bones.
