About this deal

Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. It's a plotless (and almost completely wordless) but always engaging series of surreal forced metaphormoses for our everyman hero, whom institutions, industry and nature itself seem compelled to constantly force into new, reductive incarnations--as if any amount of individuality were something to be rigidly stamped out. With a diverse cast of complex characters, an exhilarating plot and a real sense of peril, Adam-2 is a breathtaking science fiction thriller. The robot Adam-2 has been locked in the basement of a lost building for over two hundred years - until one day he is discovered by two children, and emerges into a world ruined by.

Surrounded by enemies who want to use him, and allies who mistrust him, Adam must decide who - and what - he really is. Adam-2 has been locked in a basement for over 200 years so he has missed the war between humans and robots that have devastated the world. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling.

This science fiction novel has a thrilling plot, catapulting the reader through a cosmic adventure . Status: REVIEWED Description Transcript Variant: This variant (3) uses an alternate splice site and lacks an internal exon in the coding region, compared to variant 1. This subfamily contains other snake venom metalloproteinases, as well as membrane-anchored metalloproteases belonging to the ADAM family. He initially refuses but uneasily realises that this is the only way he can prove his allegiance to the humans.

A great sci-fi follow-up to Alastair's first MG, 'Orion Lost' (though this is not a sequel to that), so safe to say my expectations were high. It’s a book that will make young readers think, many ethical questions arise, which would provoke discussion. It is good to finally read a story with a non binary main character (using the pronouns ze/hir), who is integral to the plot. Hunted by both sides, Adam discovers that he holds the key to the war, and the power to end it – to destroy one side and save the other. From the author of the highly-acclaimed Orion Lost, Adam-2 is an exciting and hugely gripping science fiction thriller - perfect for fans of Eoin Colfer, Anthony Horowitz, and Philip Reeve. The spiral behaviour is astounding – spiral stability can be a problem with low aspect-ratio beginner wings, but we have tested the paraglider extensively, with different inclinations and sink rates, and never, ever has it stayed in a spiral, once! Alastair Chisholm offers an intelligent, empathetic, heart-breaking story of friendship, understanding, tolerance and hope. I was emotionally invested in these characters, I really want to visit Edinburgh now and as always, the overall message of empathy and understanding had me close to tears! And while this wasn't Orion Lost, which had been impossibly good, Adam-2 managed to come into its own and finished comfortably at a 4🌟 rating.
