About this deal

Thunder are at the very peak of their considerable form, still offering fans doses of ‘Dopamine’ after all these years. Promotion [Live Promotion], Booking – AEG*, Andy Copping, Dave Driscoll (4), Live Nation, Orchard Live*, Steve Homer I was very relieved to learn, though, that this is most definitely not the case, and lead Singer Danny Bowes’ vocals are still as impressively powerful and clear three decades on!

Promotion [Radio Assistance] – Instinctive PR*, Raised On Radio (2), Steve Dinwoodie, Whitney Ribbins And this is where there is a little bit of a surprise in store, ‘Pink Supermoon’, is a schmoozy, jazzy, city on a hot summer’s night of a tune, but not at all what I was expecting! But hey ‘Thunder’ do this bloody well, and it feels groovy!

Thunder will also embark upon a UK arena tour in May 2022, including a date at London’s The SSE Arena Wembley (Image credit: BMG) Just A Grifter’ has a Parisian café feel about it, folky, starting with an acoustic guitar strumming, Bowes vocal is careful and thoughtful, the French vibe continues complete with an accordion and violin.

The new album comes at the perfect time for Thunder, whose line-up for the last quarter-century and more has been Luke and Danny Bowes (singer), plus Ben Matthews (guitar and keyboards), Chris Childs (bass) and Harry James (drums). I read a fascinating article by an American psychologist,” Luke says, “who said that social media forces us to become dopamine addicts. We’re validated and liked on social media, which releases the dopamine, and so we get addicted to it. We didn’t set out to make a double album,” Luke Morley said, “but as the writing and recording process went on, we wandered into some interesting areas, and then it became a case of ‘can we afford to leave any of this off?'” Fans of the song Love Walked In won’t be disappointed as the album contains the softer on the ears ballads Unravelling and Is Anybody Out There.

Goods that are faulty or sent in error must be returned to Crash Records Limited, 35 The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 6PU within 7 working days of the item being received by the customer. Across The Nation is an in your face Thunder classic. “This is a very direct song,” Luke says, “about being in a band but not being able to tour. The frustration we feel because of that is huge, so we’re very much looking forward to the time when we can get out there and play.”

On 1 st January 1989, Terraplane held their annual New Year’s Day meeting, it would be their last. Vocalist Danny Bowes and guitarist Luke Morley had decided to fold the band, and form a new one, this band would be called Thunder. It’s hard to believe that the band is now in their 33rd year and with the pesky pandemic putting a spanner in all our works, the Thunder chaps have not been idle and given us all a double album offering that reads like a novel about the past freaky few years we have been going through. The album will be available in CD and double LP vinyl, with exclusive lenticular cover versions available only from the Thunder online store. Promotion [Live], Booking – AEG*, Andy Copping, Dave Driscoll (4), Live Nation, Orchard Live*, Steve Homer Thunder fans haven’t had to wait long between drinks as hot on the heels of 2021 highly-acclaimed release ‘All the Right Noises’, the band have followed up with their first ever studio double album ‘Dopamine’, released through BMG.

Across The Nation’ hits the eardrums like a low flying jet and kisses ass through nicely with screaming guitars and vocals …. LOVE IT! Whilst ‘I Don’t Believe the World’ describes the unbelievable crisis we have all been living through, and quite possibly all have PTSD because, admirably, the gut-wrenching vocals and harmonies bring it all home. I read a fascinating article by an American psychologist,” says Luke, “who said that social media forces us to become dopamine addicts. We’re validated and liked on social media, which releases the dopamine – and so we get addicted to it. We take more and more selfies in the hope of more and more validation, and the album cover reflects this. People are surrounded by amazing things that they’re missing because they’re so self-obsessed. Of course, you’ll have to get your hands on the physical album to see all of the amazing things I’m referring to.” We didn’t set out to make a double album,” Guitarist, songwriter and Thunder co-founder Luke Morley says, “but as the writing and recording process went on, we wandered into some interesting areas. Then it became a case of can we afford to leave any of this off? In the end, we did reduce it from 20 tunes to 16, but it wasn’t an easy choice.”

Album opener, ‘The Western Sky’ ably sets the tone for both the sound and the feel of the album to follow. We recently spoke to Luke Morley about the proliferance and ferociousness of some of the guitar riffage on ‘Dopamine’ and you can read what he had to say about that subject right here.‘The Western Sky’ is a celebration of freedom and the band’s annual trans-American charity motorbike trip. It’s epic in both the tone and the cinematic nature of the lyrics as it builds towards a searing guitar solo with Zeppelin-like overtones. We take more and more selfies in the hope of more and more validation, and the album cover reflects this. People are surrounded by amazing things that they’re missing because they’re so self-obsessed. Of course, you’ll have to get your hands on the physical album to see all of the amazing things I’m referring to.” A Thunder album isn’t one you just listen to, you take a journey through it, you become part of it. There are rises and falls in tempo, styles, emotions and thoughts. Unravelling’ is the ballad for these times and is sensitive and truly beautiful as it washes over you in waves. The slide guitar is a lovely touch that pulls at the heartstrings. Stunning Guitarist, songwriter and Thunder co-founder Luke Morley says: “’We didn’t set out to make a double album but as the writing and recording process went on we wandered into some interesting areas and then it became a case of ‘can we afford to leave any of this off?’ In the end, we did reduce it from 20 tunes to 16 but it wasn’t an easy choice.”CD2 has a lot to live up to if I’m being honest but ‘ Dancing In The Sunshine‘ hinders any doubts that the historical CD2 of an album is never quite as good as the first. ‘ Across The Nation‘ is the latest single from the album after ‘ The Western Sky‘, and is another typical floor bouncer that we are accustomed to with this bunch of lads. Thunder have always thrown in unexpected chords changes in their verses and ‘ Across The Nation‘ is another example of this successful template. Nearly 35 years into their career, Morley, Danny Bowes, Chris Childs, Ben Matthews and Harry James have produced something really outstanding. A double album where the flow or the quality never dips. The fact that Morley has no interest in ‘chasing girls’ anymore (see our interview again here) is really working in the band’s favour as first, ‘All the Right Noises’ and now ‘Dopamine’ revels in what Morley has to say about the state of the world and the human condition. No-one needs another ‘The Devil Made Me Do It’ right now. We need joy, we need hope and we need biting socio-political commentary from a beloved and trusted source. Oh, and we need riffs!!!!! ‘Dopamine’ has all that and more. What a terrific achievement from a band that still has so much left to say.
