About this deal

In The Guest List, Foley was careless, reckless, and showed no concern for those that suffer from them, nor the stigma society has towards them.

I actually made an outline this time around to actually help tighten this one up and apparently that went horribly wrong for me. Foley excels in writing a riveting murder mystery, with the vibrant creation and development of larger than life characters, attending a strife ridden wedding in a location that is just perfect for the darkest of deeds to take place. Tired because he stayed up late last night doing God knows what, when on the boat over here he spoke of this as a weekend for us… I have a sudden frightening urge to pick up the hardback on the nightstand and hit him over the head with it. Her three previous historical novels include The Invitation, The Book of Lost and Found, and Last Letter from Istanbul. even though the story only takes place over the course of two days, this is a very slow building novel. We also have a litany of groomsmen who all went to College with Will, a place where much upper-class debauchery and rituals took place, some of which get exposed during the wedding weekend. Everybody has a theory about what made Eleanor run, but when the police suggest foul play, everyone is a suspect: Eleanor’s husband, other Herders, the men’s rights groups that have had it out for the Herd since its launch—even Eleanor’s closest friends. Personally, I would have liked for the murder to have taken place a bit sooner, but I do confess that I fell deep into this novel and kept turning the pages like I was binge-watching a murderous soap opera. Rather than just writing a typical house murder mystery, Lucy Foley was also keen to add some exciting elements of the psychological thriller.

Overall, it was a passable way to spend a few hours, but it doesn't quite rise above all the other modern thrillers in this over-saturated genre. This is a quick read, not exactly memorable, nothing extraordinaire, but impressive and entertaining nonetheless.I’m just going to list out all the themes in the guest list that Lucy Foley uses as plot devices and then throws away. Maybe it’s because I haven’t read many books in the murder-mystery genre (although you say repeatedly this isn’t in it either) but I really enjoyed this book.
