Journey is an indie adventure game developed by Thatgamecompany, published by Sony Computer Entertainment, and directed by Jenova Chen. After an introductory sequence, the player is shown the robed figure sitting in the sand, with a large mountain in the distance. Our Vortex game extension has been updated since going from Early Access to Full Launch, allowing for general mod management through Vortex (this will auto-update and require a restart of Vortex). The developers ended up reducing the overtime they spent on the project to avoid burning out, though it meant further delays and risked the company running out of money as the game neared completion.

Thatgamecompany always expected to need an extension; according to Hunicke, they believed finishing the game within a year was "unrealistic".This, in turn, allows the player to progress in the level by opening doors or allowing them to reach previously inaccessible areas. According to Chen (one of the founders of TGC), the company focuses on creating video games that provoke emotional responses from players. It's steeped in vague religious imagery; shrines, billowing robes, a solitary desert setting that can't help but evoke the Old Testament from time to time. My play of Journey ended there as i realized i did not care if i advanced or not and what the ending may be.

The team initially created a prototype named Dragon that involved players trying to draw away a large monster from other players but eventually discarded it after finding it was too easy for players to ignore each other in favor of their own objectives.But still, it is gorgeous and does deserve recognition for that alone, it's just a real shame that there isn't more to it.
