About this deal

Susannah, whose book title is inspired by her literal unreadiness for the real world, went on to hail Princess Margaret for cultivating a ‘strength’ in her after years of being ‘incarcerated’ by her extremely affluent background. Hailing from the lovely city of Dublin, Emma mainly covers the Royal Family and the entertainment world, as well as the occasional health and wellness feature.

Also what is missing for me is the development of her career into TV, as this is where I knew her from. The second half of the book I found less absorbing, mainly because the timeline was chopped up so much, and interspersed with anecdotes that whilst funny or salacious didn’t really add to the picture of the woman for me. This is one of the most iconic royal tiaras ever but only four people have worn it publicly - and Queen Elizabeth wasn’t one of them!

About the Author: Susannah Constantine is a novelist, journalist broadcaster and podcaster with over 25 years experience in the media and 50 years of f**k ups under her belt. In sharing a peek behind the curtain, Constantine does not hold back and many bold names appear in these pages from Elton John, Princess Diana, The Queen, Mick Jagger, Jerry Hall, Andy Warhol, and our own Anne Glenconner and her husband Colin Tenant.

Add in weekends at Balmoral witnessing Thatcher and the Queen battle for power, plus time for falling in love, Strictly dancing debuts and a spot of wild swimming.so I was surprised to read about her connections with the likes of Princess Margaret and Elton John. When that marriage proposal never showed up, she dated Imran Khan -then a gorgeous playboy cricket player and now the Prime Minister of Pakistan, before meeting her husband. Ready for Absolutely Nothing by Susannah Constantine review

When asked if she believes she would have been able to handle the pressure of marrying the Queen’s nephew, Susannah’s of two minds.

The first page of Susannah Constantine’s autobiography, Ready for Absolutely Nothing, does an admirable job of setting the tone.

After an expensive education, she frequented society nightclubs and socialised with Princess Margaret, Elton John and ( raising my forearms in a cross in front of me) Margaret Thatcher. Susannah also harbors no envy for the outfits of royal ladies like Princess Diana, admitting that while the late aristocrat was undeniably “a style icon”, she never influenced her own wardrobe. A turn as Anton Du Beke’s worst ever partner on Strictly Come Dancingwould, indeed, one day be hers (in 2018), and it surely says something about her charmed life that, in the small hours, it’s Ann Widdecombe of whom she thinks enviously, the former politician having somehow made it to week 10 of that redoubtable, long-running talent show. She first met him in the early 1980s, at the Queen Mother’s home, Royal Lodge, in Windsor, where he performed at the piano after dinner in a ringmaster’s tailcoat, balloon trousers, bejewelled spectacles and a cap accessorised with a sapphire brooch the size of a baked potato. The fact that Susannah Constantine made her name as a 'style guru' as part of “Trinny and Susannah” from What Not to Wear is the least interesting thing about her .With David, he’s not a senior royal, so I think it wouldn’t have made much difference,” she says, but acknowledges that joining the British monarchy as an in-law would have probably prevented her from pursuing “the simple life” she has always favored.
