The illustrations are the epitome of cute, as are the mix of characters and the text is appropriately sized and clearly laid out. This is a series which will be absolutely snapped up by parents and teachers everywhere and will most definitely get kids hooked on reading! Engaging, funny and charming ... a delightful young graphic novel - the first in a series that will no doubt be much loved, as with everything Jamie Smart creates - BookTrust Jamie Smart studied art at college for four years, but it was just an excuse to practise drawing animals with boggly-eyes. His comic Fish-Head Steve was the first work of its sort to be shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize. Jamie has illustrated comics for the Sunday Times, The Dandy, The Beano, and Toxic magazine, as well as regularly publishing his well-loved Bunny vs Monkey and Looshkin stories in The Phoenix comic, and as graphic novels for children. He is also the author/illustrator of the middle-grade book series, Flember. Max and Chaffy need to find the clues and solve the mystery so the party can go ahead, and YOU CAN HELP!Forced to take up a museum internship to pay for car repairs, 16-year-old Ojibwe citizen Perry Firekeeper-Birch finds herself unexpectedly enthralled by what she learns on the job. When she discovers that a local university has been holding on to the bones of an ancestor called Warrior Girl, instead of returning them to her tribe, Perry and her fellow “Misfits” are determined to bring them home – even if that requires a heist. From the award-winning author of Firekeeper’s Daughter, this superb YA thriller interweaves compelling action with a sense of the Native Americans’ long fight for their own history. Children will love this crime-busting duo. Best for y2 upwards, The storylines have appeal for a wide age range. I really enjoyed Max and Chaffy: Cupcake Mystery. This book is ideal for 6 and 7 year olds and even though I’m in Year 3, I still enjoyed the story and activities. I loved this book because you had to find Chaffy and if you don’t know who Chaffy is, he is a little snowball with ears and he’s very funny. At the end of every chapter, you need to find Chaffy who will be hidden in a fun picture and it gets harder and harder as you move onto every chapter.
