About this deal

Kickboards are normally the same colour as cabinetry - but they can be made to contrast or even be left out altogether.

The installation is pretty beginner-friendly and can be done even if you don’t have much DIY experience. The clip slides within the mounting plate for adjustment, there are two countersunk screw holes for fitting. You can often assemble the fence panels on the ground, then lift the entire panel up and slot it onto the posts. Begin installing your kickboards, by marking out on the kickboards where you need to make the cuts (remember those measurements you were keeping handy earlier! If you’re fitting boards on a single length of fence with multiple posts, you usually won’t need to measure more than 1 section. If you have slotted metal fence posts, slide the boards into the post slots for a quick installation. After your kickboards fit keep them against your cabinet feet and measure out where you will need to put drill holes inside your cabinet and on the kickboard to secure your kickboard from the top. They often sell out early, but can also be heavily discounted later if they don't, so here's a round-up of some of the best I’ve seen.

If you do not feel confident in being a DIY-er, or would prefer to not use your time on a project like this, get in touch with a professional to make your life easy and complete the job in a timely and skilful way. Ensure you have placed thick cardboard underneath when you clamp it down to prevent scratching the front of the kickboard. Fence posts are never spaced further apart than that, so the boards will always be long enough for your fence. A toe kick or kickboard (in the kitchen cabinetry sense) is a fascia that fits across the recess at the bottom of a floor-mounted base cabinet; these serve to conceal the plinths / supports of cabinet leg systems. Will you match your kitchen cabinet doors or go for a modern look and stick with stainless steel kickboards?

Likewise, you'll have to think carefully about what sort of floor you plan on using in your kitchen. You may, accidentally snap the laminate on your kickboard, cut the wrong measurements or drill the kickboards unevenly. Fine teeth in the saw for sure, and I'd use tape across the cutline while cutting to make sure the edge is as clean as possible. The nominal recess of the kickboard is 50mm from the front edge of the floor cabinet, or 70mm to the face of the door or drawer. If you’re concerned about your fence getting wet and dirty, install some concrete gravel boards under it.

They normally fix to the legs of the units with plastic clips that screw on the back of the kickboards with small screws.

When refacing your kitchen with your new replacement kitchen cabinet doors, you may wonder should I also replace the kickboards in the same colour as my kitchen cupboard doors? Thanks to the crisp, pristine appearance, white kitchen plinths are a versatile choice for finishing the look of simple colour schemes, concealing the gaps between cupboards and the floor to create a neat look. Also whether or not relevant there are several white clips above the kickboard which has some sort of mechanism inside which appear to be where the kickboard is attached. If the kickboard has exposed edges, these can be fixed using a waterproofing agent to prevent moisture from entering, or constructed using a moisture-resistant board. If you have solid wood or metal posts, you can fasten gravel board clips on the posts with a cordless screwdriver instead.
